“Perfect for the unique occasion”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We stayed here specifically because of the proximity to Ford field (it's literally around the corner) and we paid about $75 dollars to stay there for one night.
I was surprised when booking online that a king bed was not an option as that seems to be the standard in most places now. I initially booked a room with 2 double beds but we got their around 11pm so they had given our room away and only had a room with a double bed available but it saved us $20 so I didn't mind.
The rooms themselves are small and old but it's one of those experiences you take advantage of because it is an old and historic hotel the accommodations are more than reasonable for the price and location in downtown. Not the best sleep but good enough to get you through the day.
If going to a football game this is the BEST and cheapest place to stay and would be perfect with a larger group as well since most of the rooms are 2 double beds
Harmony cafe downstairs is the classic greasy spoon breakfast! Literally shoved in a corner of the hotel its 2 guys and a grill, paper plates and strong fresh coffee. $15 gets you 2 bacon and egg breakfasts with fresh potatoes and onions. We were there around 10am on thanksgiving thursday before the game and the guys can really through out some quick meals and manage the crowds well. You can eat in the old dinning room attached the the hotel so space is never a problem. There is a parking lot directly across the street from the hotel but when we went parking on the street was free so we didn't have to worry which was amazing!

“I am Happy with my exerience.”

Okay so I booked this hotel because it was the only one i found around that wasn't going to charge my card until we got there i was taking my boyfriend to the Wings NYE game and it was all a surprise.

So i read all the reviews on this site and on most other sites. Needless to say i was freaked the hell out about the Cleanliness and service and lets be honest, EVERYTHING. After reading the reviews I was really second guessing myself, but i am so glad i didn't listen to them!!!

We took the people mover once we parked out car at Greektown and walked around a little bit, once we got to the hotel, there was a very nice guy at the desk asked about our trip and the game and so on, they put us on the 10th floor which at first freaked me out. we took the elevator up and it was kinda rocky but its an old building so i wasnt surprised. we walked to our room and first thing we did was checked everything.

The room smelled clean, but the floor had some stains on it. the comforter had a bunch of cigarette holes in it(all rooms are no smoking now), and it had some stains(ripped that off and threw it on the floor). the room was in a 'V' shape. walked into the bathroom and it was VERY small. but there was a working toilet, a clean sink, and the shower was old you could tell but it was alright. the shower cutain needed to be replaced it was kinda gross. there was no ac but it was december big deal... the heat was cool. there were two old radiators and the room was HOT when we got in, we turned them down and opened the windows that would open(we had like 8 windows in our room and we atempted to open 5 and 2 out of that 5 were the only ones that would open) the cable sucked. I dont know what was up with it but the channels were really pixelated, it wasnt constant, it would work for a few minutes then stop and come back.. and so on. We were mainly staying there to sleep there was a lot we wanted to do as far as walking around seeing Comerica and Ford field, which were right across the street. the view from our room was beautiful. We did eat breakfast one of the two days we were there which was fantastic. fresh fruit, yogurt, ceral, coffee juices, milk, and a waffle maker(the waffles were AMAZING) we really didn't interact with the staff much until the night before we checked out and then at check out. the elevator broke the last night we were there and that is the only time i was pissed aobut being on the 10th floor walking up and down those stairs sucked bad, but thankfully they had opened the back elevator then next morning when we went to check out. as we were walking to the back elevator the floor reeked of pot, and i told the lady at the front desk about it. checking out was a simple process.

Overall there were some things that need to be done with it. But in my opinion there was nothing that made me upset that i booked this hotel. Its not the best hotel there for sure, but i didn't spend 400+ for the weekend. and all the other hotels would have cost me that much with it being NYE weekend. We would 100% stay again if we go back to the D!

“Great secret in downtown Detroit!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Luckily we "found" this treasure so often overlooked - just around the corner from Ford Field, Co-America Park, Gem Theatre and the Fox Theatre in downtown Detroit. Built in 1917 as the Henry Clay (lobby still has original tile and stained glass windows) it remains a classic with lots of character.

“Convenient Location is only Advantage to Staying Here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

I love historic hotels, and safety, cleanliness, centrality, and affordability will often make me tolerate more "funkiness" than the next traveler, but I'm afraid that I cannot recommend this hotel in Downtown Detroit. The lobby was lovely, and full of the fascinating history of this almost 100-year-old hotel, but the room we stayed in for 3 nights looked as if it had been "renovated" and painted by your nephew who you're trying to keep off the streets. The rooms was cold, heated by a central system that the desk assured me "comes on automatically every 2 hours"). The first night, we had two bottles of hand lotion, no soap, no shampoo and one set of tiny towels for two registered desk. The room was barely clean, but didn't smell fresh. The third night, the room hadn't been made up. The security guard was friendly and extremely helpful; the evening front desk attendant was bored, rude, and wouldn't even call a taxi for me one night (I stood in front of her and called several companies that wouldn't pick up their phones before finding one) and any question asked of her was met with a sullen, "I couldn't tell you." When I asked her if I could have an unforeseen third night at the same rate as the other two, she tried to charge me $25 more, though the day-time attendant said they make this accommodation routinely. Noise travels easily between other rooms. The breakfast (included) was OK, on a par with standard budget motel offerings.

Room Tip: Find another hotel, even if you must pay more.
