From the moment my mom and I arrived we were treated like royalty. The owners, Mona and John, came out to the car to greet us (by name) upon arrival and our bags were up in our room where lunch was waiting, along with a chilled bottle of wine, before we even completed the tour of this historic B&B. The lunch provided and the snacks in the room were according to the questionnaire we had filled out in advance. Our suite was nothing short of amazing. The front room with a queen sized four poster bed right off of the bathroom was perfect as was the large rear bedroom with a king sized four poster bed along with vanity plus sink, and antique armoire. The space was accented by the dining area complete with mini fridge, table and four chairs, armoire, and cable television. The bedding was real feather down; soft and luxurious. The bathroom had beautiful marble tile and a Jacuzzi tub. There was evidence of other guests but we felt like we were the only ones there. The owners made it feel like home and every need was attended to with absolutely no hesitation. After our long drive we decided to hire a service. This was immediately provided. The first night I came down with a migraine and had to leave dinner early. We called for our car sooner than expected which came in no time and by the time I got back to the room there was a cold pack, heating pad, and headache medicine on my dresser.
There was no need or desire that went unmet. In fact, after the first day, we left some items out (pajamas and such) and when we returned our items had been laundered and folded. Now that is customer service!
Reservations were made for us whenever we ate out. When we ate in, it was like eating out. Mona is an amazing cook. Her Chilean sea bass rivals any I have ever eaten and her breakfast grits are the creamiest I have tasted in years. My mom and I had wonderful conversations with John and Mona who really know Detroit. They were warm and caring and really treated us as more than guests, they treated us as family.
The Inn is around the corner from the basketball and baseball stadiums and a short drive from the casinos and river walk district. It is a great location. If you are ever in Detroit, MI, 234 Winder Street Inn is the only place to stay.
