This was actually our second or third stay at this Hilton and certainly will not be our last. We live out in the burbs and always stay the night downtown when we visit the Greektown Casino for the evening. I am a long time Hilton customer and typically end up using my Honors points when we stay. Number of points are average for staying at this property by the way.
You cannot beat the location for a night at/in Greektown. Quick right out the front door and you are about a 3 minute walk from Greektown. No more than a block and a half. No worries, safe walk, pretty well lit (for downtown Detroit - city of burned out street lights lol). My husband and I met at the Casino after work and checked in separately, so I walked by myself from the hotel to the Casino - zero worries. Felt perfectly safe. No reason to be chicken folks. There is another Hilton downtown the Embassy Suites Fort Shelby - stayed there as well. Based on location, this Hilton beats them out hands down. It's quite a walk from the Hilton Fort Shelby to Greektown....and not one I would like to do. Cabs are NOT easy to get in downtown Detroit and they are expensive (you can easily get a cab FROM the hotel to where ever you are going, hard to get a cab BACK, Detroit is not NY, Chicago or Las Vegas) So I would recommend this Hilton, as again, you can walk to Greektown, and it's right across the street from the Stadiums.
Excellent front desk staff, very helpful. Rooms are your average Hilton mid range room but very clean. Good appointments of towels, shampoo. lotions, and conditioner in bathroom, etc. Small microwave and fridge in room for those leftovers. No complaints with the facilities.
Did learn something this time around though! Since hubby and I drove separately and met down there....I valet parked for the $20 bucks overnight stay (no problem, knew about the fee). Hubby self parked in the exact same parking lot for $5.00 overnight. As a matter of fact, our cars were actually pretty much next to each other when we left. When you pull into the Hilton, don't whip your car around and go through their valet. The public parking booth is right in the Hilton driveway - just pay that person in the window and you'll save $15.00 per day. Too funny. Live and learn I guess!
Excellent stay, excellent option and highly recommended. Plus I won on the slots that night so bonus!
