Stayed here on the night of the Little Caesar's bowl so the hotel was very busy. This is an older building but the hotel is up to date. Rooms are clean with great beds for sleeping. Free breakfast is typical of the Holiday Inn Express fare. Breakfast room was very busy in the morning and the staff did a great job of keeping the buffet food items filled and cleaning up. The pool is OK and the workout room is above average for similar hotels especially if you are looking for weight lifting equipment. The hotel is located a short walking distance to Cobo Hall and Joe Louis arena so it's a great location for Red Wings games. You can walk to Ford Field/Comerica park if you don't mind a 10 to 15 minute walk through the city. The hotel does offer a shuttle bus that will take you anywhere within three miles of the hotel so that will take you anyplace you'd want to go. Rates for a downtown hotel are also very reasonable. City Bar right next door is a decent place to have a drink...they have 16 beers on tap. Only had an appetizer to eat and it was OK.

There for business. After returning to my room, I discovered my room was half cleaned. Pillows were thrown everywhere and a dirty towel was left in the sink. There were no towels in the room upon check-in. Valet driver was rude. The air conidtioner whistled all night and leaked on the floor.

Travelled with friends to go see a Lions game. A very convenient location, within walking distance to Ford Stadium, ball park, and Greektown Casino. Reasonablly priced hotel (compared to the other downtown hotels). The hotel was clean, safe and perfect for a 1 niter going to see a game. They "ding" you $20.00 for valet parking, but your car is in a safe location. If you stay on to watch a football game, they charge you another $10.00 to leave the car in the parking lot. Worth it as you don't have to worry about the car. You can call ahead on your cell, and the Valet will have your car ready.
Saturday night in downtown Detroit, there is not very much going on (Ghost Town)!

My friend and I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Detroit, in August 2011. We found the hotel to be beautiful, newly renovated, clean, and we felt very safe.
Our car, we parked in the valet parking. When we were ready to leave, they brought it to the door for us, and everything was perfect.
We had read bad reviews on this hotel, before we went. Are we ever glad, that we did not believe them. We had a great stay. Did not have an opportunity to check out the pool. But I am sure, it was as clean, and beautiful as the rest of the place.
