Spent just one night - great view of the river. Superb room service. Friendly, helpful staff. Concierge lounge has a very nice breakfast. Allow plenty of time retrieving your car from valet parking - made me late for a meeting. It is also somewhat difficult to find the entrance to this hotel - could be better marked. It is a long trip from the motor entrance to check-in, so if you have much luggage (I didn't), allow the bellman to assist you.
Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center is a first class hotel. As one might expect, its room rates reflect the fact that it is first class lodging.
The rooms are kept exceptionally clean. They are spacious and equipped with totally modern furniture and fixtures. Each room is provided with an ironing board and iron. A hair dryer is available as well.
Room service is excellent at this hotel. You can order dinner up to at least midnight. The quality of the food is good. The restaurant at the hotel, the 40 degree is an excellent establishment. I recommend you try the breakfast buffet.
The hotel is located across the Detroit River from Windsor, Ontario. There is a walkway that goes for a few miles along the river. If you don't want to walk its possible to rent a bicycle. Downstairs at this hotel is a whole showroom full of new GM automobiles. The lower floors also contain a food court, restaurants, and some other shops.
The only drawback I found to staying here is the parking. It costs $25 a day to park a car at Marriotts. The valet service could be faster too.
If you have the money this is a great place to stay.
I booked this hotel because my customer is onsite. It is very convenient with many dining choices. The room was not as good as other Marriott hotels I have stayed at. I was disappointed in the room size and there is no closet. At least there wasn't in the room I was in. A little hard to travel on business and not be able to hang up dress clothes. Oh well. Not many amenities unless you are a gold member which I hope to be one soon, I would stay here again if I had to be close to my customer. The room was clean and efficient. The Starbucks has free wifi and I could get it in my room.
The Marriott at the Renaissance Center in Downtown Detroit is a shining light in a largely drab city. It rises majestically to over 70 floors, with breathtaking views of the city and the Detroit River from many of the rooms on the upper floors. The suites are graciously decorated. The bed is superb. The entire Renaissance Center, with its six majestic towers, is a wonderment, with elegant shops, multiple restaurants, and helpful staff. The convention room rate was surprisingly modest.
