“Excellent food, service, and ambiance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2010

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday, and we had a great experience. We had reservations at 7:30 but got there a little early and were seated right away. After about 20 minutes, the host asked us if we wouldn't mind moving a table over because he had messed up the seating and need our table for a large party. We gladly moved- it really wasn't a problem at all, but he still insisted on buying us dessert. We tried to split a dessert (Chocolate cream pie yum!!!) and he insisted on paying for that and buying us after dinner drinks (irish coffee)! All of the food was really good- I had a potato gnocci, which was absolutely melt-in-your-mouth divine. My boyrfriend had a seafood risotto that he enjoyed (he raved about the house-cured bacon), and we split some red pepper risotto cakes, which were also tasty. Everything was fresh and prepared with care. The wine selection was very good and the service was wonderful. We weren't in any hurry to leave since we were there for a show at 10, but the server never tried to rush us. Even the $10 valet parking was fast, efficient, and a better deal than parking at the Fox! I will definitely go back here the next time I'm in Detroit. It's a great place for great food and a fun atmosphere.

“Great Location, great deal, great food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2010

We have been to Angelina's a number of times. Mostly before shows at the DSO or Fisher Theater, but also before a Tiger's game. It is conveniently located and steps away from the People Mover. Big huge windows let's you look on onto Detroit and Comerica Park. Makes you feel like you are in another city.
The menu is unique, with homemade salami and homemade pastas. Never had a bad dish. Last week we had 2 cocktails, a bottle of wine, 2 cappucino's, 1 appetiser, 2 entrees, 2 salads and one dessert and it was only $120! (no including tip). Wine list is extensive and reasonable (most bottles are $20-30) and wines by the glass are under $7. Menu is varied with seafood, pasta and meat. Highly recommend. Recommend reservations, especially on weekends/show nights.

“Wonderful service, wonderful menu, wonderful food and presentation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2010

My title says it all, but I will, of course, add more. Went there with my husband and another couple on a Friday night (3/05) with a 5:15 reservation prior to a Red Wings game. Almost empty at that time. Our varied meal choices were: Primavera (more on this later), minestrone, arancini, bruschetta(3 different types), Caesar salad, salmon w/vegetables and balsamic reduction and a thin crust pizza. If there had been a 4.75 star food rating I would have given that, only because the Caesar salad got an "eh" from my husband. Everything else got very high marks. The Primavera is an appetizer that consists of pickled fennel, pickled spicy onions and roasted red pepper. All of the appetizers on the menu come with dressed arugula, olives, crostini and pecorino romano. Wow, wow and wow - $8 for a huge platter that all 4 of us absolutely loved - it could easily have been priced $12-$14. Complimentary excellent bread served with olive oil, honey butter and also a white bean dip. Our server, Robert, was wonderful and our water glasses were always kept brimming as well as quick order-taking for additional drinks (good prices and nice selection of ales). The salmon, my friend said, was the best she's ever had. Thin crust pizza garnered high marks. Arancini is a fried risotto w/mozzarella and red pepper with a basil aioli - again, yum. Dessert - apple crostada and also an almond cheesecake. Delicious. Everything brought to the table was beautifully presented. We left at 6:45 and the place was packed. Dressed up diners for the Fox and Opera House and casual like us for the game. Very comfortable atmosphere, wood floors, high ceilings and music just loud enough to add to the ambiance rather than detract. Very convenient to People Mover and just down the street from the Opera House - Comerica is a just a short walk away too. I can't believe mine is the first TA review for this gem!
