“Your home away from home”

I grew up, quite literally, at The Dearborn Inn. My parents used to dress us up and take us for Roy Rogers/Shirley Temples at The Eagle Tavern and then we would have dinner there. More recently, I stay there whenever I am in the Detroit area on business. One night, my flight was hours late. All the restaurants on the way to the hotel were closed. When I went to the tavern, the kitchen was closed, but the women who works there had them make dinner (burger and fries) for me anyway. It is this type of service that brings me back, again and again.

The rooms are classic, and can be small, but it is an old hotel. I love The Dearborn Inn, and always will. It is a homey place and all that the word Inn implies.

Room Tip: Try to stay in the main building.

“Enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My husband and I had our 31st anniversary and went to the Dearborn Inn. It was very nice, a b & B feel but the ammenities of a hotel! We did the package deal which included the breakfast in The Edison room, that was very nice! Wonderful food, service and price! An enjoyable stay all around!

“Hotel not worth staying at”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We stayed two nights at the Dearborn Inn and were extremely disappointed for the following reasons:
1. We were told the rooms were for sleeping in only.
2. The televisions were for decoration only.
3. The rooms were not for talking in even if you are whispering.
4. The rooms were not ready for two hours after we arrived.
5. The rooms we arranged for were not together as we requested.
6. We paid for conseirge rooms but no amenities were provided.
7. We paid the same for a room with 2 double beds as we did for a king suite. Not fair!!
8. My daughter-in-law was rudely asked to be quiet when she quietly stepped out into the hall.
9. Our family felt like prisoners in our overly charged rooms!!

Room Tip: Rooms have no insulation so you hear alarms clocks and doors slamming constantly

This review is one of three (others posted 12/29/11) posted by the same family. We highly respect the TripAdvisor community, and every guest's right to post their assessment of our hotel and service. We sincerely regret any negative experience this family had at our facility. The main issue focused on a noise complaint lodged by another guest against this family, as they gathered in a bedroom suite for the holidays. It is our duty to respond to such complaints, and make every attempt to satisfy both parties. Clearly we were unsuccessful in turning this situation around, which again is regrettable. While we respectfully disagree with some of the other claims in their reviews, we have worked directly with the family to resolve them, and hope they will return.

“The Inn should invest their money in soundproofing their rooms.”

In life when I try something And don't like it I am willing to try it once more to judge whether I like it or not. Usually this happens with food, however in this case it revolves around staying at the Dearborn Inn. My family got 4 rooms together and reserved them back in August. When we arrived for our two night stay our rooms were separated. This problem was solved, however later when we tried to gather in a room at night we were told the rooms were not for gathering by the management. We were then taken to the other side of the hotel on another level with some of my family still in their pjs and one kid who was still recovering from surgery so we could have a late night snack. The complaints had begone from the moment we arrived at check in because we were too loud. This hotel is not family friendly and I would not recommend it too anybody nor will my family be staying their again. Can we suggest blowing insulation into the walls so families can actually enjoy their company. Not worth the price nor the marriott experience.

“Not family friendly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We have enjoyed staying at the Dearborn Inn before but our last visit will probably be our last. As a family we rented 4 rooms that were supposed to be together according to the reservation but were not, as well as we would have access to the concier lounge but it was closed. We were told that there were too many complaints about us making too much noise when we checked in and that night even though we were only in our rooms for 30min at the time and were having a conversation. The night duty person directed us to a meeting room no where near our rooms to meet in and said that the hotel rooms were not for gathering in and that we should have rented a house. Very disappointing.
The only positive recommendation I will give it is the maid service which was friendly and understanding and the restaurant which is exceptional. We will definitely go back for brunch and dinner.
