“Again Extended Stay America Fails in an Epic way”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

I was staying in one of the filthiest Extended Stay Americas in Sterling Heights Mi and had to move to another in Dearborn, Mi. I had made my reservation on Friday to check in on Monday. When I arrived at 3pm my room was not ready and was told that I could come back in an hour. There was a maintenance man in the room fixing something. I was told there was something "weird" in the room. I checked back at 4:15pm and the room was not ready still. By 6:30pm I was finally able to get into my room. When I entered the room I found the beds had been moved and set up against the wall and the headboards removed from the walls. I had to put the room back together myself before I could even move my luggage into the room. Another failure by Extended stay.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel.

“Run down, dirty and loud”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011 via mobile

I work on the road and I have stayed at a number of extended stay hotels. This one has a great location and affordable rates, but the building is run down, the rooms are dirty, the walls are paper thin, the wifi is the slowest I've ever seen and most of the people at the front desk are rude and/ or worthless.

“Terrible experience.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

I was on a long business trip and I had initially booked in for 2 months and my need was a decent room to sleep over at night.
I was warned against taking up a room here, but took up this place since all the others rooms in this budget was not available elsewhere.

First the goods.
The location is decent and is right next door to Fairlane mall. If you are not cooking in the room, there are great options for food at the mall.
The room was decent sized and amenities basic.

The bad.
A week into the stay I discovered that the microwave was not working. It took multiple messages and calls to the front desk to get a replacement after 10 days.
The rooms are only cleaned once a week.
After a fortnight it went without cleaning for 2 weeks.
Again multiple messages were left and the answer I got was there was no staff to clean the place.
Except for one lady the rest of the staff was quite rude whenever I complained about the lack of room cleaning. This was apart from the complaints I had for the microwave earlier.
I left many messages for the manager, whom I never met and did not get a single response back from her.

I realised later that most of the times their rooms were occupied (i am presuming due to the prices), so they were not unduly bothered if the odd guest was unhappy or had a genuine complaint.

Since I was at work most of the time I was not too bothered by this for a few days.

But after a month I had had enough and basically ran out of the place and moved to Residence Inn (I have written a review for that).

I was charged for an extra day since they claimed that I did not leave a forwarding address.
They eventually refunded the charge when i complained.

All in all, it was a terrible experience.

They were short staffed and the staff was rude, and the manager is never present and did not call in spite of many messages and reminders.

“never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2011

We are a family with three kids, I booked a week in advance for two rooms facing eachother specifically for that, they promised me the two rooms, i called the day before to confirm, and after flying in with six suitcases in tow i was told that one of the rooms was taken, so they would give us one on the first floor and one on the third, they were extremely rude saying it wasnt their problem the rooms were booked, what can they do to help us? relocate us next to the airport is what they said, they only have TWO, yes two chairs in the "lobby" to sit on, and after asking to speak to the manager they said just wait for her to call us back, we waited a little, realizing no manager was going to call back, u get worse than what u pay for here, a motel would have looked like a five star compared to this nightmare ,we left with not even an apology for their inconvenience.

Room Tip: the people are cheaper than the rates

“Low rent party central....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2011

Get ready to keep the heater/AC turned on all the time, 'cause that's what it took for me to get any sleep at all. Both nights of my stay there were loud parties in adjacent rooms and (seemingly) spilling out into the halls. Management was either oblivious or unwilling to control the noise. It reminded me of living in my first apartment years ago, or perhaps more accurately, in a college dorm. This is not what I pay my hard-earned money for.

Listen, I know what to expect from an Ext Stay when it comes to amenities; none. No shampoo, tiny soaps, small towls, no detergent for plates, etc. I get it. It comes with the bargain basement rate. But I do expect a modicum of quiet....

Couple other notes. I was on the ground floor and the only drapes on the windows were the blackout kind. So basically you had the option of no sunlight at all, or opening up the drapes and letting the world look into your room. At LEAST on the bottom floor, there ought to be sheers.... Oh, and on my side of the bed there was no end table. Is this just an economy move? Finally, I asked for an additional pillow and was told there were none? Really? So what happened if someone ruined one or stole one or a kin puked on one? You didn't have ONE MORE to share? Doubtful.

Anyway, not my favorite stay of the year.
