Just back from our first trip to Beaver Island (well, MY first trip), and can NOT say enough good things about our hosts at Shanoule, nor their stunning home.
Bob and Joan (and Rusty, the yellow Lab) really and truly made us feel like guests in their home. Their breakfasts were delicious and filling (Eggs Benedict one morning, stuffed French toast with ham or bacon the second, with fresh fruit both mornings, as well as juice), but their conversation was even better! Bob also made sure we didn't miss the wildlife that visited at breakfast, including squirrels, chipmunks, wild turkeys, and deer.
We spent several hours just chatting, swapping dog tales and hearing about some of their adventures. I felt like we'd known them for ages. Joan also graciously made our dinner reservations at Nina's and arranged for our flight back (which was then cancelled due to fog), and they toted us back and forth to the ferry.
Their log home is just as I had pictured my dream log home, and the room we stayed in was comfy and cozy without being cramped. It had a larger shower and toilet in the bathroom, with a lovely free-standing sink in the bedroom area, which was very convenient for getting ready in the morning. Their stories of its construction kept us entertained (and grateful we had not decided to build a log home ourselves).
When we go back to Beaver Island, this will be where we stay - I simply can't conceive of going anywhere else!
