“We loved this place and the breakfast was amazing!”

This is a very nice B&B with modern fixtures and cute rooms. They had individual bathrooms and a very nice common room. Bob and Sharon are the best hosts that give you a personal tour of the island prior to your stay. The breakfast was delicious and they are very accommodating to your eating time. Fly on Island Airways and spend more time on the island!! (not the ferry). Highly recommend

“Wonderful, cozy, homey place to stay on beautiful Beaver Island”

I highly recommend staying in Bob and Joan Banville's beautiful, hand-built log cabin deep in the woods. Expect cozy, spacious, spotless bedrooms and a delicious breakfast, plus the chance to learn lots about the island and its people, history, culture, and wildlife. This was my first time on Beaver Island, and I won't consider staying anywhere else if I return.

“Perfect place. Perfect people.”

Wow, we happened upon this place as we were planning our honeymoon on Beaver Island and could not have chosen a better place to stay. First, Bob and Joan are some of the most amazing people we've ever met - so comfortable and welcoming. They treated us like old friends within minutes of meeting us and had us laughing all night at their fun stories. They cook a pretty mean breakfast, too - perfect for our surging appetites following our pre-wedding nervousness! They are also experts on the island and told us the best places to spend our 2 days there. We paid a little extra to use one o their cars so we could explore the island, and that proved to be a great decision. You can tell everyone in town loves them, too, because you mention their names and get a huge smile or a chuckle back. We wished we could have stayed longer but will certainly be back in the near future. We recommend this place to any couple looking to get away but still enjoy the pleasure of others' company. (Bob & Joan, we hope you are reading this! We told you we'd add to your already stellar reviews! Thanks for everything! Love, Joe & Erica)

“You can have it all -- Island and Woods in this Amazing B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2009

Bob and Joan have to be two of the nicest and most interesting B&B keepers that we have met in our short B&B career. Their lovely home, located on 40 acres of wooded land on the island, is an incredibly comfortable place to stay. You can crash at the B&B all day, or go out to "do the island." Bob and Joan are full of really incredible stories and have lived amazing lives. They are fabulous cooks, and the breakfasts were gourmet (ask for the Eggs Benedict and Stuffed French Toast). They are both well-connected to the Island, and a full of great information. You will need to have your car, as they are outside of the town, but that just makes it easier to visit some of the lovely beaches and hiking spots on the south side of the Island. They have a hot tub and outdoor fireplace which guests are more than welcome to use. We will be staying with them again, next time we find our way to Beaver Island. Thank you so much for an amazing vacation week! If you are disappointed staying at the Shanoule, the fault is yours!

“Bob & Joan are the greatest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2008

Bob and Joan Banville are two of the nicest, friendliest people I have ever had the fortune to meet. Our four days with them was wonderful. They went out of their way to make our stay perfect. The breakfasts were gourmet. Bob has a wonderful sense of humor and he and my husband had a blast comparing stories about their military experiences. Joan is a lady's lady. Gentle, kind and very friendly. Although they had a family situation, they were still attentive to us. We didn't spend as much personal time with them as we would have liked as we were on the go so much. Then tired out at night, that bedtime came early. Nonethe less our experience at lovely and unique Shanoule was a very inspiring and wonderful experience. Great people, great food, cannot think of one negative thing to mention. Also loved the house, absolutely beautiful and the peaceful atmosphere was only added to by the wild turkeys and deer roaming outside the door wall. Great time. Thank you Joan and Bob. Would love to return. Bev & Byron Fiedler
