Even though we own a cottage and a house on the Cape and we have lots of family here we could stay with, I wanted a B&B experience for my birthday. My husband made a very good choice in the Blushing Oyster. I was thrilled! I am very picky and already know a lot about the Cape. Some places on the Cape (especially cottages and hotels) have terrible beds and furniture and smell like mold and mildew. A B&B is the way to go and this one is especially nice. The home is beautifully restored/decorated and they have kept some very authentic Cape Cod touches. While having some modern luxuries (comfy bed, fluffy towels, modern bath, etc.) and beautiful decor, you still have the feel of a period house. We had a suite on the main floor which was spacious and had an electric fireplace and also a huge tub (Wellfleet). We stayed during the week and people who live on the Cape need to go to work so 6A can be a busy road even in November. It did not keep us from sleeping--just something to note if you are a very light sleeper and want to sleep in during the week- you may wish to choose a room on the back of the house. We are early risers, so not an issue for us. All of their rooms are lovely so whichever one you pick, you just can't go wrong. We had a sitting area where we could work on our computer and watch TV. I borrowed a book from their library and read it, which was fun. They also have movies you can watch. I read a review of his B&B here that said the staircase is a bit steep. Steep staircases are authentic to Cape houses. This staircase is not as steep as most houses I've visited on the Cape--so disregard that person's comment unless you have some kind of physical disability, in which case just stay on the main floor at any Cape house. You really want to have the real, authentic Cape Cod experience as part of your trip to the Cape so enjoy the stairs as part of that. Breakfast was delicious each day (we really loved the sweet potato pancakes and also the baked pear!) and the coffee was very good. Jim was a lot of fun to visit with. Sue is a sweetheart. The stay at the B&B was a surprise for me so I did not book and had not read the policies. My husband worked in the hotel industry for years and didn't realize we needed to be timely for check in or else call. Even though we disregarded a policy (whoops!), Sue was very sweet when we checked in. We felt badly about it, but they were very nice and accomodating. We stayed in November during very misty, chilly weather and the inn was warm, charming and a wonderful place to come to at night. Each room has its own temperature control, which is not the norm on the Cape and you will enjoy being in control of your room temp. when staying here. By the way, the Cape is a great getaway in November. It's quiet, there is no traffic and you can see a lot more in less time. Many places are closed, but some great shops and places to eat are still open. People who don't come to the Cape in the fall and at Christmas time are missing out. It's not just for summer anymore. Even though we live where it is warm and lovely in November, we come every year in November for my birthday getaway and are now thinking about adding December to our yearly pilgrimages. My best friend and I are coming back to the Cape for a girl's weekend in April, as well. We would definitely stay at this property again. Enjoy!
