“It was a clean and quiet place to stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

We stayed here at the end of our summer vacation. We toured the New England states and ended here. It was a clean and very quiet place. We had a family room that was spacious. The walk to the ferry to Martha's Vineyard was a bit long for our daughters. When we needed information or to buy ferry tickets at the motel the staff was very helpful. I think because the motel was so quiet, clean and Woods Hole was a quiet family oriented town this was the best place to stay in the area.

“Quintessential simple, clean, perfect family lodging.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2010

We stayed with our three young children over Father's Day. The room was perfect, simple and clean. Pool was great and the small porch was ideal for our morning coffee and to drip dry bathing suits. The hosts were wonderful and helpful but not intrusive. Short walk to town for meals or the wonderful oceanographic wonders. This is a gem if you like winding down a few notches...almost like being in another era. Woods Hole is a destination unto itself. We will return.

“Like a B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2009

I have had the pleasure of visiting the Sleepy Hollow Motor Inn at least once per year since the present owners took over in 2001. A sense of relaxation and calm accompanies each visit, as the innkeepers and staff are consistently friendly, courteous, and immediately attentive to any requests and needs. They offer a variety of suggestions for eating and recreation in the area. Making reservations is quick and easy – though I recommend planning ahead, since their strategic location near the ferry port (for Martha's Vineyard) and picturesque downtown Woods Hole makes their rooms in high demand. The rooms themselves are comfortable, clean, and well-maintained, and have free cable TV and wi-fi access. The grounds are well-groomed, with lovely flower arrangements and a clean outdoor pool. With its cozy and charming ambiance, the Sleepy Hollow Motor Inn is as close to a bed and breakfast as a motel can be.

“Keep Away”

If I were paying $60 per night it would be a stretch to be ok with this place. Fact is, that it cost $170 excluding taxes for a place that literally stinks. The sheets smell like urine or maybe that unwashed mouldy smell... can't tell exactly. The toilet was blocked when we used the toilet for the first time. They got it fixed pretty quickly, but the toilet kept blocking up even with minimal solids and toilet paper. The drapes need to be washed as you can smell them when you close them. The main road it quite loud with all the tractor trailers that come by to go to the ferry to martha's vinyard.
worst of all is the barely friendly service and the lying (yes! lying). I asked when we checked in if they have any AAA discounts (a typical question for us). They said they do not offer that. Subsequently, I saw AAA prominently displayed on their road sign as I suppose a sort of bait. My brother actually had a AAA travel book and we looked this place up. Wouldn't you know that they were clearly listed as offering discounts to AAA members. When we spoke to them, they simply denied that they offer this. We were pointing to the place in the book where it stated this. The woman wouldn't even look at the book saying that they are already discounted and that they don't discriminate based on AAA membership ????!!!!! Needless to mention that the hostility was more than palpable. If you don't mind overpaying for a smelly rude hole, give it a try.

Wow, we can't guarantee that everyone enjoys their stay at our motel but this review reveals more about these guests than it does about our accommodations. We've started actively encouraging guests to post reviews but this obviously shows the potential downside of that effort.

As far as the complaints about cleanliness, those are unwarranted and I would simply encourage you to look at other reviewer's comments on this and other ratings sites. Another online review called this "the cleanest place I have stayed in". We have changed out the curtains based on this review but it has been a very wet year and it's an uphill battle to keep rooms fresh. We air rooms out on a daily basis and do not use heavily perfumed cleaning products.

For the record, we are an AAA rated motel but have never offered AAA discounts. We have asked AAA to correct this in their guide and will pursue again to eliminate this confusion. They were charged the rates that are published in the guide and they accepted them when they registered. They arrived without a reservation and took our last two rooms on a busy summer weekend. As for cost, we are the least expensive motel in the village.

Some concerns are real. Noise can be a legitimate issue for all Woods Hole accommodations and for many others on the Cape. The toilet in question was new last winter. They did not report any ongoing problems but we have these new units in three rooms and if we experience more issues they will be replaced.

We don't want guests who aren't enjoying their stay and would have been able to re-rent the room and refund the charge for the second night if they had expressed the extent of their dissatisfaction but they chose to keep both rooms for two nights. Their traveling companions seemed to be enjoying their stay. Perhaps the enjoyment of these guests was affected by the fact that their toddlers seemed to be crying almost constantly during their visit.

“more than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2009

For a small motor inn this place was very nice. We stayed in one of their family rooms and it accomadated 4 adults comfortably. The place is very clean and comfortable. The air conditioner and refridgerator both worked well. The towels were even thick and fluffy. It's just a short walk into Woods Hole for the ferry to Martha's Vineyard, restaurants or the aquarium. There is a 10 mile bike/ped path just down the street that takes you along the coast and into the marshes if you want some exercise. Drive an hour to Barnstable for a whale watching cruise. We had wonderful weather making our weekend even more enjoyable. To relax and go low key, this was a great motel and area to be, especially if you are visiting someone at MBL.
