I have stayed here with my family twice before, once in 1999 and again in 2005, so that tells you that I like this inn. The room this time, as before, was very clean, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Staying here is like stepping back in time because the inn maintains the feel of a past era, but as I said, the rooms are very clean.
I noticed a slight mildew smell, but it was raining and damp outside, and we were in a shady room - it was not a big deal at all. We opened the windows, and we never had to use the air conditioner because with the windows open, the room was very comfortable. I will say that the bed was not comfortable for me, but I am used to my Temperpedic mattress cover at home, so I am spoiled by that. No one else in my family had a problem sleeping, and the room was quiet. We enjoyed the little porch out front in the afternoon.
The room was spacious - it had two queen beds plus we used the roll away, and we had plenty of room. There was a sliding door to the porch as well as the main door to the room. We loved the blue bathtub and sink, and the shower had excellent water pressure.
We walked to Woods Hole and had a very enjoyable day visiting the aquarium and shops, and we had a great meal (I can't remember the name of the restaurant, but I had an excellent lobster roll).
The nightly rate was high, but it was the cheapest we could find, and, by the way, it was the only room available - we were on our way to Woods Hole without a prior reservation, so we were glad to have such a clean place to stay. I realize, also, that we were staying during the high season, so the rates were most likely at their highest.
I would recommend this inn to other travelers.
