My husband, daughter and myself recently did a Monday through Saturday stay. Hotel is located across from a multistory office building. Not a great view but acceptable if, like us, you're there on business as opposed to vacation and at $99 per night for a Marriott, I'm o.k. with that! Hotel is seven stories and we requested an upper room as I prefer as panoramic a view as possible when I travel. Only problem was that the location of our room had us looking directly at the hotel room windows on the right (not very private) and Raytheon office building to the left, as the hotel is "L shaped" and we were located on the inside of the "L"! A view on the outside of the "L" would have been better (Not terrible, but might matter to some). Hotel is in close proximity (1 mile or so) to many franchise type restaurants, a small shopping mall, grocery store, Target and other shopping. Very conveniently located off of I95 and 93. Also, nearby was a YMCA and the small town of Woburn. My daughter, who is an avid swimmer, opted to utilize the Y for the pool and gym, both of which were not really adequate at the hotel. The gym had only two treadmills and one elliptical machine; however, for $5 per day, hotel guests can utilize a full fitness center within walking distance from the hotel. Personally, I don't appreciate having to leave the hotel to exercise or to have to pay extra to work out. Breakfast, which is included in the stay, was mostly acceptable. Typical industrial scrambled eggs, my husband enjoyed the sausage, I found the potatoes chewy and dry; however, the oatmeal with choice of blueberries and/or strawberries, the make your own waffles, orange juice, muffins, french toast, whole wheat bread, cereals and yogurt were nice options. Other fruit, pineapple and canteloupe were not ripe, but I guess it's hard to find ripe fruit of that type at this time of year. We had a queen with sofa bed. Both were fine as were the linens. You'll need to shop at the local food store for supplies as not much is there but paper towels and dish washing soap. Room was a nice size, however, I agree with another reviewer, poor location of bathroom in that it opens up directly on the queen bed. The room was evidently recently redone and therefore felt very clean and new. Each day though, it seemed as though the housekeeping staff would forget to leave certain items requiring that we leave notes requesting what should have been provided i.e. shampoo, wash cloths, tissues. The staff was mostly just "there", with one exception which I will mention momentarily. Our stay was going very well until we started bumping into construction workers. Evidently, the hotel is being renovated. Consequently, there were frequently workers using one of the two elevators bringing in large pieces of furniture clogging up the hallway in front of the elevators making it difficult to get on and off and causing a long wait for the other elevator. Further, they left behind dirt and a mess in the halls and the elevators which should have been vacuumed. We dealt with that as, again, we were there for business more than pleasure. As they say, timing is everything. On Thursday, we attempted to use the shower only to find that there was no hot water. We were told that the water would be repaired and we headed out to our scheduled daily activities. Before returning, we telephoned to see if the hot water had been fixed and were told that it had. We dropped our daughter off at the Y in Woburn. We returned to the hotel and I went down to the gym to exercise. Upon returning and finding that the hot water had not been fixed, I spoke with Katarina, the hotel manager on duty. She immediately apologized and offered to give me another room in which to shower. However, when she met me at my room she advised that there were no rooms with hot water available. I guess when she saw the look of shock on my face she offered to reduce the hotel rate for that day, for which I thanked her but asked if she would make arrangements for me to go to the sports club next door. She made arrangements for me and drove me to the facility herself. When I returned, I learned that she had also credited us with one night's worth of Marriott rewards points that I had used towards our stay. Very accommodating, very respectful. All seemed fine, until the next morning when we woke up to find that there was again no hot water. My husband spoke with someone at the desk who was, unfortunately, not so accommodating or respectful. We went out for the day without having had showers. Not our style and very uncomfortable! By the time we returned, so had the hot water. It seems the pipes had broken and were fixed briefly but then burst again. I suppose these things happen but it was a tremendous inconvenience to have to travel offsite to the sports complex with my change of clothes, and other paraphernalia, but Katarina's quick response to help and her offer to reimburse us for the inconvenience made it easier to bear. She is apparently someone who understands the meaning of treating a patron as a "guest" which is what I expect from Marriott personnel. I'm not sure who does the plumbing repairs at the hotel, or who is running the renovation, but both need to be reviewed for the sake of future guests. Apart from that, overall a nice hotel, room, good breakfast, nice price, good location (30 minutes outside of Boston) and at least one good hotel manager!
