“What a letdown...”

Subpar FI. As a business traveler I stay in hotels for 60 nights a year. Most of these nights are in Marriott properties ranging from Full Service resorts to Fairfield Inns. Woburn is a let down. The train tracks are not that bad, but still make sure to request a room away from the tracks. Parking is adequate, but pulling into the lot can be a challenge during busy times. The staff is far from warm, maybe that’s the Boston charm, maybe its just bad management. There is no fitness room in the hotel which is a problem. They offer complimentary day passes to a local gym, but that’s just not the same- plus you have to bring your own towels to the gym. The wifi is fine, the breakfast is what it is and its free so no complaints there. The rooms are fine. The “perks” that you expect are missing and that’s why I’m not coming back to this property- and why I am actually reviewing a property. Just a let down, which is the last thing a business traveler wants with their lodging.

Room Tip: Higher floor, away from train tracks.

“Great staff, excellent value!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

I have stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Woburn many times, most recently in April 2011. I have run the Boston Marathon several times and stay at the Fairfield during marathon weekend rather than spending $300 - $500 per night in Boston during marathon weekend. The staff at this hotel are fabulous! The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable. The drive into downtown Boston is less than 20 minutes (non-rush hour) from this hotel or you can drive to a T station, park and take the subway into downtown Boston (my preference). There are plenty of restaurants nearby including several in a mall that is a 5 minute walk accross the street. I will be back again in April 2012!

Room Tip: The comments about the outside noise from the Interstate and/or commuter train line are accurate so...

“Nice hotel, but being right beside the T commuter rail sours this place for me.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Great location near lots of restaurants and shopping. Clean, comfortable and wonderful staff. Now the bad...sits directly beside the T commuter rail station. Rooms on the train track side of the building will find the trains very disturbing. Apparently, the opposite side isn't near as bad, so request it if you stay here. Unfortuately, this place is great in every aspect, except the train noise, which is hard to ignore. Give them a try, but pick your room wisely.

“Clean w/great service; noisy location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

I've staying a many Fairfiled Inns and this one was pretty typical. Clean, spacious rooms with flat screen TVs and a good, free breakfast. What made it stand out in a good way was the staff who were incredibly attentive and on the ball. What made it stand out is a bad way was the location - wedged between the interstate and a busy local road with the commuter rail running alongside one end of the building. I had requested a quiet location and did get a room near the end of the hallway, away from the trains, but backing out onto the Interstate. The hotel was full so they moved me to one of the few available rooms, closer to the trains (which I only heard twice once the commuter time was past and then only briely while they rumbled through as opposed to the constant truck noise from the interstate). Overall, it wasn't bad, but I wished I'd shelled out the extra money for the Courtyard which is very close by but has a much quieter location.

Room Tip: Face the front of the building, on the end away from the train tracks.

“Good value for a visit to Boston”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

Everything you can expect from this type of hotel is there - convenient location, plenty of parking, large clean rooms.

I recommend this hotel for all tourists not willing to pay the exorbitant prices charged by even 2 and 3 star properties in the city of Boston proper. And when in Boston, try to park at the Boston Common underground parking facility. It is large, very accessible, and charges affordable rates.
