This place was beautiful and the food was excellent! The room was immaculate and the staff was wonderful. Can't wait to come back! Thanks Mike and everyone else there for making our stay so wonderful!

Having lived in the frantic pace of NYC for the last nine months, I was tired and frazzled and
ready for a getaway. A repite that would refresh and rejuvenate me; a place of quiet reflection and peace. I booked a 4 day retreat at The Lambert's Cove Inn on Martha's Vineyard which had been highly recommended to me by a friend.

As I headed North, and then East, the weather became increasingly wet and windy. I didn't care. I needed to get away to a place that I had been promised would be cozy and peaceful. I found it to be so much more then my expectations.

I arrived late and called Kell Hicklin one of the two proprietors to say that I had missed the 7:30 ferry from Woods Hole, He was not phased at all by the late registration and offered to pick me up at the ferry terminal on the Vineyard side.

After driving for about 10 minutes, we turned down a wooded driveway which directed us to The Lambert's Cove Inn. At the end of this road stood a stately white mansion with several smaller buildings off to it's side. The property itself felt as if it was being held lovingly by the forest.

Scott, the second proprietor took my bags upstaires while Kell showed me around the main building. I was instructed to make myself at home and the sincerity of the invitation felt like we were long lost cousins.

My room was named the Cheasepeake Room and it was beautifully appointed to reflect that area of the country. There was a rich velvet and silk duvet which covered a warm down comforter on a four posted queen sized bed. I thought to myself "I will need that tonight" although I could have opted to turn up my individual thermostat. The room also had stylish artwork which were nicely framed on the walls, and multiple antique lamps. The room was spacious but invitingly cozy. The details of the room had all been handled in a gracious but not dated style. Elegant!

While here, I wanted to embrace the time of the nineteeth century when the structure had been built. Everything about the Inn's decor and ambiance reminded me of a pictured time of people setting in the library playing cards or reading a book. All of that with the conveniences of the modern world.

I wandered around upstaires, stopping at doors that were named "Seaside", "Charleston" and "Keywest." Each room sounded exotic and depicted a particular location around the Eastern seaboard.

Kell who was passing me below asked if I would like to see a couple of rooms that they had offered. As this was off season, he had the abilty to provide me with this treat. The spareness in occupancy was only due to the season of cold rain and wind.I was clear that this was a place that 's 15 rooms would be at full occupancy only weeks later when the weather turned warm.

After I settled in, I began to explore the building. Each room more exquisitely decorated then the one before. Books lined the walls and lamps that gave off just enough light to see the collections of boxes and collectibles from all over the world.

After eating my continental breakfast at the Inn I set off to explore area known as "The Vineyard.



Thursday night I ate at The Lamberts Cove Restaurant and learned that they were trying out the contemporary menu of Tapas. It was wonderful!

Along with some new friends I had made while on the island, I sampled about everything on the menu. Rich succulent morsels of wonderfully prepared food. My waistline definetly sufferd, but so worth it. I had not had Tapas before and learned that by nature it invited people to talk with other each other's table occupants, comparing each delight that they had just experienced.

All in all, my experience was so great that I couldn't wait to tell everyone I came in contact about it. My collegues definetly recognized my newly found relaxed demeanor.

We stayed at Lambert's Cove Inn on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, the final night of the Martha's Vineyard leg of our Spring vacation. Upon arrival, we were greeted at the front desk by Mike, the general manager, who told us that we had a choice of two upgraded rooms; at no additional charge (we could also have kept our original reservation for the Mystic room). After checking out the two upgrades, we chose to stay in the Seaside instead of the Mystic.

The Seaside is a very comfortable, very clean, nicely furnished room. The bed was wonderful and big. The room has its own thermostat, which allows you to adjust the heat to your liking (the weather was unseasonably cold and quite windy during our stay). The bathroom, bedding, and towels were clean, soft, and pleasant to use. However, there were three things about this room that I did not like. First, since the head of the bed is directly below a front facing window, the glare from the outdoor freestanding electric lanterns (which illuminate the parking area) proved to be an annoyance. Second, the lower outlet of the dual receptacle used by the television and DVD player may have been failing. The television and DVD player were on a 2-plug extender. We heard a "crackling" sound as soon as we plugged the 2-plug extender into the lower outlet of the wall receptacle. The noise stopped as soon as we unplugged the extender. Third, the Seaside has a working fireplace but there was no wood in the room. We requested firewood but never received it. We did not make a big deal about the firewood because we were enjoying an upgraded room. Still, given the cool, windy weather at the time of our visit, a warm, glowing fireplace during the night would have been welcome. Overall, despite a few disappointments, the Seaside gets a "thumbs-up" from me.

The breakfast that Mike prepared for us on Thursday morning was outstanding. Mike is not the inn's chef, but you would never know that by eating his cooking. We ate everything he made and left the table totally satisfied. In addition to being a good cook, Mike is a good "people-person". He came out to the dining room and talked with us at length during breakfast. We got to know him a little bit better....more than just as the "front desk guy". Mike is definitely an asset to Lambert's Cove.

Finally, Lambert's Cove will charge you extra for bottled water, small snacks, and any calls you make from the in-room telephones. The inn projects an outward image of elegance and sophistication yet insists on "nickel-and-diming" its guests for cheese crackers and a bottle of water. What an insult! When I saw the "honor system" sign for the water and snacks, I was offended and tempted to go and inspect the bed in the Seaside to be sure it was not one of those coin-operated beds associated with squalid flophouses. We typically patronize only Select Registry B&B's and Inns where a bottle of water and small snacks are, almost without exception, complimentary. For example, the Hawthorne Inn in Concord, MA...the Ivy Lodge in Newport, RI....and the Crestmont Inn in Eagles Mere, PA are all Select Registry lodgings and all offer free beverages and free snacks. In fact, the Ivy Lodge and the Crestmont Inn feature actual guest pantries stocked with an assortment of free goodies (fresh fruit, fresh baked cookies and muffins, sodas, juices, coffees, teas, water). Lambert's Cove does well with the "eye candy" but not so well when it comes to certain guest amenities.

My husband and I planned our honeymoon to St. Lucia, but due to unforseen circumstances, this trip had to be cancelled. We already had scheduled our time off and couldn't change that and started researching other romantic locations. We luckily came upon the Lambert's Cove Inn and Restaurant website, which showed their accomodations and information on their inn. We called them (during what turned out to be after their normal business hours) and left a message; we received a call back early the following morning and was told they could accomodate us for 5 days for our honeymoon as it was still their "sleepy season". Kell, who I had spoken with and is one of the proprietors, was very helpful in his tips for the trip (such as bringing your vehicle to travel around the island, bringing our own wine to the inn and restaurant as they're located in a "dry" town, etc.) The drive to Cape Cod and the trip across on the ferry was without incident. When we arrived at the inn, which is located approximately 15 minutes from the ferry and in a more remote location, we thought it looked very intimate and romantic. We met and had many interactions with the general manager, Mike, who was a great "go to" for all our needs and some of the "hot spots" to check out on the island. We stayed in the lovely (and large) Bar Harbor room, which is located in an adjacent cottage to the inn, and just thoroughly enjoyed our stay from the accomodations, to the breakfast service, the staff interactions, the grounds of the property. There were tables around the area where we just relaxed outside. Now, onto the food....we ate at the restaurant one evening and the food was wonderful (and gluttonous!). From the appetizers, to the entre, to the dessert, we had a wonderful meal, great service, romantic setting, and after all that, not a far walk back to our room to just digest! Again, given that our trip was before the peak season, we were lucky they were not fully booked (although we did see more people staying in the inn for the weekend). Luckily for us, we made it there, saw the wonderful sites of the vineyard, and had a most romantic and memorable honeymoon.
