“Stayed twice. Went from mediocre to bad”

The first time I stayed, the price was the attraction. I arrived early and the man behind the desk was pleasant. He gave me a room on the 3rd floor. I went to the room and found the door wide open and being cleaned. I went back to the desk and he apologized and gave me a new room, no harm done. When I to the new room on the 2nd floor, there was a strong odor as soon as the elevator opened. I asked for a new room on the 3rd floor and got one. The room was very worn! the heat/cooling unit was very cranky. The bathroom and the carpet had signs of severe wear. The bed was acceptable and the internet worked. I think the gentleman gave me a room with a fridge and microwave because of the first 2 mistakes because they had a hand written sign at the desk about those conveniences costing $10 more.

The 2nd trip was about a week later and since the price was good I figured lets try again. What a mistake!! The person at the front desk, a woman who said she was the "owner", was rude from the get go. I was early she said. I asked when a room would be available she was flippant and stated that check-in time was 3pm. I said I understood that and I politely asked when a room would be available so I could know when was the earliest i could come back. After she restated the same 3pm time, I said I would be back later on after I did some errands. I arrived back at 4:15 to check-in and told her I would be staying one night, not the two I originally booked. Then things got really ugly. She said the policy was clear on her reservation site that cancellations needed to be done by 4:00pm 24hours ahead of time. I explained that my company had changed my schedule and I couldn't stay. She almost yelled at me. She said she couldn't make and exception for me and that she had owned this location for 30 years and that had been her policy for 30 years!!! I explained that i had only been doing business with her for a week or so. I did not know her policy but I intending to stay one night only. I said, in any case I'm only 15 minutes late per your policy. She was very firm that the best she could do for the following night was to charge me 1/2 price for a room I didn't need!?? Now I wanted to cancel for the first night but she stated she would have to charge me the full rate even if I didn't stay.

Needless to say, I crossed Days Inn off my hotel list. I guess you DO get what you pay for?

“Days Inn West Springfield, Mass”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

This hotel is very outdated and has not been well maintained. The first room I stayed in was room 104. There are insufficient electrical connections in the guest rooms. The room wiring has been added by placing wire guides on the outside of the walls. The wire guides have corroded and have what looks like mold on them. The first room that I checked into smelled like urine. I believe the smell was coming from a sofa bed that was in the room. The sofa bed was not usable as a piece of furniture because the mechanism in it was broken and the mattress has been removed. There was no structure in it to support a person and it was a safety and health hazard. The light for the vanity did not work because the electrical switch that controlled it was broken. The light could only be illuminated by holding the switch in position. The caulking was dry all around the tub enclosure which may have created the smell of mold. The second room, Room 101, I moved into had no sofa. The window/slider was broken and could not be closed completely to lock it. This was on the ground floor where someone could easily walk into the room from the parking lot. The card key operated entry door to this guest room did not close on its own because the spring hinge was broken so I had to make sure I manually pulled the door closed when entering or leaving the room. There is a homeless encampment in the woods just to the south of the building, about 50 feet from the guest rooms. In the morning the homeless people can be seen leaving the woods through the parking lot. The room heat/cool air handler devices are either on hot or cold or off. The noise from the adjacent Route 5 roadway is excessive perhaps because the windows have not been updated with better sound reducing glazing components. The interior design is very outdated. I would not stay at again or recommend this property to anyone.

Room Tip: There are other hotels close by that are better. Candlewood Suites is just across the road and has m...

“Pretty good for a one night stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011 via mobile

We rolled in after a 4-hour drive, arriving very late just after midnight. We didn't take a great look at the room; just checked beds were clean and fell asleep.

The next morning we found out that the wallpaper was peeling from the walls. I think we figured out why when we went to shower; the exhaust fan no longer worked.

Plus side? Gobs of hot water & several showerhead settings to choose. Towels were very scratchy, though :(

Beds were firm & springy. Not the best, but exhaustion helps. Pillows were nice & fluffy & bountiful!

Skip the "breakfast". I'd rather not go into detail, but it was very underwhelming. We went out!

I probably wouldn't stay here again, but I wouldn't warn anyone away.

“Stunk. Literally.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

The room was small, with two full beds (not queens). It hadn't been vacuumed and there was a wet towel sitting on the counter when we arrived. We had a nonsmoking room, but there was a heavy tobacco smell as soon as you walked into the hallway. Could they not have made the entire floor nonsmoking and put the smokers on a separate floor? We tried to call down for some extra towels (there were three sets in the room and four of us staying there) after coming in at 10 PM, but no one answered the phone. The first night I stepped on a sliver of glass in the carpet, and the following night my nephew did the same.

All around one of the worst hotel experiences we've ever had.

“Dangerous neighborhood, dirty motel, loud fighting in the room next door”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011
1

Booked this through Hotels.com (my first & last time using that site) which had mostly positive feedback for this motel, NOT HOTEL! It is far from 2 stars, it would be a stretch to give it 1. I am assuming that Hotels.com deletes negative feedback in order to make money because it seems the payment goes to them, then they pay the motel. The reviews for this place were nit picky..things like the lightbulbs were out and the AC was too noisy...nothing that would have detered me from staying here with my teenage son.
Upon arriving, we realized something was not right. There was a "by the hour" efficiency motel located next door. We called 4 different delivery places for pizza, all 4 would not deliver to that location due to safety concerns. By that time it was dark and we were afraid to leave. Starting around 11pm, the people in the room adjacent to us began fighting, swearing, and breaking things for several hours. We called the front desk 4 times to no avail. The "breakfast" was a couple of disgusting, dried up pastries & muffins, and boxes of cereal, you could not have paid me to drink the milk in the dirty carafe.
The ONLY positive thing I can say is the sheets were clean. Both myself & my 14 year old son wore flip-flops in the bathroom and shower. You know it is bad if a teenage boy thinks it is dirty!!
We used Priceline back in May for arrangements. I called Priceline to ask for double beds, got a live American person, were put on hold for no more than 5 minutes & it was taken care of! I called Hotels.com Sunday when we got home and after 15 minutes of pushing buttons, finally got a person, in Central America named "Betty" who put me on hold for an hour while she "tried to resolve" my problem..give me a credit...sorry, no can do!!
Lesson learned, I WILL ONLY USE PRICELINE.COM!!!! Buyer Beware!!
