The first time I stayed, the price was the attraction. I arrived early and the man behind the desk was pleasant. He gave me a room on the 3rd floor. I went to the room and found the door wide open and being cleaned. I went back to the desk and he apologized and gave me a new room, no harm done. When I to the new room on the 2nd floor, there was a strong odor as soon as the elevator opened. I asked for a new room on the 3rd floor and got one. The room was very worn! the heat/cooling unit was very cranky. The bathroom and the carpet had signs of severe wear. The bed was acceptable and the internet worked. I think the gentleman gave me a room with a fridge and microwave because of the first 2 mistakes because they had a hand written sign at the desk about those conveniences costing $10 more.
The 2nd trip was about a week later and since the price was good I figured lets try again. What a mistake!! The person at the front desk, a woman who said she was the "owner", was rude from the get go. I was early she said. I asked when a room would be available she was flippant and stated that check-in time was 3pm. I said I understood that and I politely asked when a room would be available so I could know when was the earliest i could come back. After she restated the same 3pm time, I said I would be back later on after I did some errands. I arrived back at 4:15 to check-in and told her I would be staying one night, not the two I originally booked. Then things got really ugly. She said the policy was clear on her reservation site that cancellations needed to be done by 4:00pm 24hours ahead of time. I explained that my company had changed my schedule and I couldn't stay. She almost yelled at me. She said she couldn't make and exception for me and that she had owned this location for 30 years and that had been her policy for 30 years!!! I explained that i had only been doing business with her for a week or so. I did not know her policy but I intending to stay one night only. I said, in any case I'm only 15 minutes late per your policy. She was very firm that the best she could do for the following night was to charge me 1/2 price for a room I didn't need!?? Now I wanted to cancel for the first night but she stated she would have to charge me the full rate even if I didn't stay.
Needless to say, I crossed Days Inn off my hotel list. I guess you DO get what you pay for?
