The first thing noticeable was the somewhat dirty appearance of the lobby and the stairwell.
Our rooms were on the second floor way in the back, and the long hallway to get to them had a strong smell of stale cigarette smoke. We requested non-smoking.
In one of the two rooms we had reserved, the heater unit was not working. The room registered 61 degrees and nothing seemed to get the thermostat moving.Upon notifying the front desk, the young woman informed me that I had to move a lever from AC to Heat before the heater would work. I told her politely that I knew how to operate the lever, and after a few seconds she told the handyman to see what could be done.
This young man, very apologetic, had to replace first a pump switch, which did not solve the problem, then he replaced the thermostat which got the heat up and running. This took about 1/2 hour. The kitchenette seemed ok, large refridgerator, a dishwasher(?), not enough dishes to put into it. The coffee pot was tiny and leaking. One packet of coffee was available and a few assorted sweetners in a small plastic container that at one time was used as an ashtray, with burn marks and ashes still in it. I found that more disgusting then the smelly, dirty, carpet complete with cigarette burns and holes.
The thin blanket on the sleeper sofa, as well as that on the bed had big burn holes as well. Drawers in the vanity had not been cleaned in some time, bathtub wasn't very clean either.
It was obvious cleanliness was not a priority at that hotel. The only reason we stayed was the fact that we needed to be close to Childrens Hospital, and the availability of rooms when we made the reservation. We had called a few other places, but could not get any rooms.
The cost was not justified even for Boston, but for the convenience of being close to the hospital we felt we had no choice but to stay.
The only good point, the bed was comfortable to sleep on. The sleeper sofa was not.
