“A relaxing, fun weekend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

Our antique car club hosted a weekend at the Publick House just after the big snow storm in October. The staff was extremely helpful at every point, from booking, to answering questions, to reassuring us that they'd be ready for us despite the power outage - and they were! We stayed in the travel lodge and the rooms weren't fancy, but for the very reasonable amount we paid, they were fine. The food in the main Publick House was always delicious and our servers went above and beyond to make our meals enjoyable. Our club members had a wonderful time and we'd definitely return!

“A pleasant port in a storm!”

We were without power due to an ice and snow storm. After 2 nights in a freezing house I decided to look for a hotel. The Publick House had just reopened after being out of power itself. They said that they were running on a generator and although it wouldn't be "warm", it would be more comfortable then the temps at home. Once we had checked in we opened the door to a beautiful 2 room suite with 2 full baths. It had a king size bed, a queen size sofa bed and an inflatible mattress in the closet. Our king size bed was extremely comfortable and I am 6'3". The room was nice and toasty at about 75 degrees too.
Room #14 comes highly recommended as does the inn. We stayed there on Halloween night and even though it was founded in 1771 we weren't even visited by ghosts ;-).

Room Tip: room 14 is our best pick!

“A step back in time”

I love staying at this place. If you want all-the-frills, B&B-type rooms, they have them. If you want an economical rate, you can stay at the motor lodge. I choose the motor lodge. If you want Hilton-like amenities, don't stay here. The floors squeak, there are no coffee makers, and the furniture is old. But, it's cool.
For around $60, you get a clean room, a breakfast (in the pub) w/ home-made sticky buns, bread and muffins, coffee which rivals Starbucks and an atmosphere un-matched.
I stay in hotels 100 nights per year and I go out of my way to stay here when I can.
On one hand, some of the rooms / bathrooms need improvements. On the other hand, they began an 'improvement' project, last year. I stay in both.
Dinner in the pub will be memorable.

Room Tip: If staying in Motor Lodge, request rooms on 2nd floor (if you can). The carpets are cleaner as the...

We spent a night a the travel lodge for a wedding this past weekend, the main inn was
fully booked. Paint and wallpaper was peeling and the p;ace should be completely gutted
and redone. Everything about the room was a turn off......the bed, the linens ......old
and depressing room. We paid $159.00 for the night, it was like a $45.00 motel room.

“Great inn and awesome restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

We stayed at the publick house for a conference I was attending in Sturbridge. The staff was gracious and gave me a special rate for business travel. We stayed in room 4 which is really neat with the crooked floor and old beams. The floors are a little skeaky but hey it adds to the historic feeling. The restaurant was great, my favorite was the prime rib- I'm pretty sure it's only available for a few days during the week. my wife had the chicken pot pie which looked great as well. Both the restaurant and front desk staff were friendly and helpful.
