We have stayed at Commonwealth Cottage twice now and each time the innkeeper has been graciously welcoming. The property is well-kept and has a superb herb garden and comfortable front porch. The room where we stayed has a private entrance and bath. There is ample parking and the neighborhood is quiet and safe, away from the tourist traffic but close to various attractions. There is a common lounge room (or two) where you can sink into the uphosltery and enjoy some tea and cookies in the afternoon. While the place is well-appointed in terms of furnishings and styles, it's a case of the comfort existing for the people here...while elegant, it's certainly very far from dark and stuffy. The beds will ensure you a good night's sleep, the mattresses and linens are top-notch. This also goes for the hot water and towels in the baths...it appears that 'skimpy' is not in the innkeeper's repertoire. As for the breakfast, here you don't have to choose between quality and quantity because they exist simultaneously. You probably won't need much in the way of lunch : ) The innkeeper will fill your stomach *and* your hearts and you will continue on your voyage or return home filled with the spirit of bon voyage.
