“Oh, just GO there!"”

I just organized a group of mixed media artists, and we stayed at the Chocksett Inn and then visited the nearby Museum of Russian Icons in Clinton, MA. We needed a nearby
venue that had affordable lodgings and a roomy workspace for creating art. The Inn was all of that, and more. The staff could not have been more helpful, accomodating and patient with our exhuberant group of artists. And, ohboy, the MEALS! Every evening we enjoyed something different. From the short ribs, to the home made ravioli, salmon, and "best fish and chips ever", amazing desserts, full bar service and nice wine list......suffice it to say, we were very happy. This Inn provides great dollar value, and the staff are wonderfully welcoming and professional. Just go! (and try the nearby Museum......it is a Pearl beyond Price.)

“Delightful & Delicious”

I had the pleasure of attending my cousin's wedding at the Chocksett Inn in Sterling. I was pleasantly surprised that this quaint New England Inn was built in the 80's It looked like it had been there forever. Our room was cozy & nicely appointed. We relaxed for awhile then ventured down to the front desk to ask about local places to eat. She recommended thier own restaurant. We started with the Duck & Apple Tart. It literally melted in your mouth! My husband ordered the Maple Braised Short Ribs & I had the Pecan Encrusted Salmon. Our waitress recommended we try the Wachusett beer on tap. We always like to try the local brews! The salmon was served over rice with a seasonal vegetable and was delicious & fresh. My husband commented to the waitress that he had never had such great ribs. She told us that the chef had recently won the "Taste of Wachusett" with the dish and we could see why. If you are traveling in the area, I would highly reccommend stopping at the Chocksett Inn! We had a great experience and oh...The wedding and staff was fabulous!

“Gorgeous and peaceful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

We attended a wedding here that was beautiful! The staff were very friendly and courteous and went out of their way to be helpful!

I recommend coming prepared for your own after-wedding party as there are minimal options for food and drinks at night.

“Stay away from the resturant.”

We made reservations for four on a Saturday night at 5:30 p.m.

When we asked about the specials we were told that "We are changing our menu next week so there are no specials. We are just getting rid of what we have."

The bread arrived.... four pieces in the basket... all dark no white. I asked for some white bread and was told "Sorry we ran out". (5:30 on a Saturday night.)

Fifteen minutes after we finished our soup and salad with the dirty dishes still in front of us, I asked if we could have more bread. 10 minutes later...dirty dishes still in front of us, we were told that we were only allowed one piece of bread each. (They had a big party coming in later.) Dirty dishes still on the table.

After a brief discussion among the four of us, we stood up and left the dining room, and the dirty dishes, stopping at the desk to pay for what we had been 'served' and to never return.

We went to another resurant that night and had a very pleasant meal.

“Awful Experience... Rudest Staff Ever!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2010

I would not stay at this place again if they sent us vouchers to stay for free!! From check in until check out, the staff was rude and could care less if they helped you in any way. (I should have known when they charged my credit card months before we stayed there that this place was no good!) We stayed there with family for a wedding and were told we could reserve two rooms across the hall from each other. (You would think this would be easy to block out since we made our reservation in August and weren't staying at the inn until the end of December.) When we checked in, we found out that our rooms were on completely different floors! When we inquired about this at the front desk, a VERY rude staff member told us there was nothing they could do about it and did not make any effort to help us out. Our room was dirty and we didn't even walk on the carpets with our shoes off. The bathrooms are old and they don't even give you little samples of shampoo, conditioner and soap. They have a soap machine mounted in the shower and you use it much the same way you would use a soap machine in a public restroom. For the price we paid for the room, (which was supposed to be the biggest suite they had) I found this to be ridiculous. As another reviewer wrote, they consider a sofa bed to be an additional bed. I felt horrible that my 60ish parents had to sleep on this. We reserved a port-a-crib which we assumed would be a decent size. It turned out to be a pack-n-play. My son refuses to sleep in one of those, so he ended up sleeping in the bed with us. As for the food, we were there for a wedding and were looking forward to a great meal. Well... the appetizers tasted like they came from a bulk food store and had been frozen and then reheated. Our dinner entrees were luke warm at best. The portions were small and the chicken I ordered was so gross I ended up sharing my husband's steak instead. If you are thinking about having your wedding there, watch out for their wedding planner. We had several issues throughout the night and tried to approach her about them, but she could have cared less. i could go on and on about how low class this in truly is, but I think I've said enough. Beware if you decide to spend the night at this place. You're in for rude staff, dirty rooms, and lots of other headaches!
