“Wedding was awesome.... Everything else, not so much”
We got married here in October 2010. The actual wedding went off without a hitch, and made everything else worth it... I guess in the end that's all that matters. The facility and grounds are very nice. Perfect if you like classic New England and the fall. The really nice benefit for those interested is that its a rather new facility (the banquet hall) and is easily handicap accessible. It is very clean, nicely decorated, and classic.
The staff is another story. Our wedding planner quit mid way through the process. The events coordinator.... "Well call her "Maris" from Cheers. If you know her or see her, you'll know exactly what were talking about. She is good and bad. At the end of the day, we got everything we wanted how we wanted it, but it was a BATTLE the entire way. It really made the process unenjoyable.
The food: oh boy... really tough subject here. We went to eat here several times while we were planning the wedding, and it was a 6 out of 10. Very hit or miss with the food. The apps were phenomenal. The duck wings... wow I want them right now just writing this. The entres though are another matter. We went there for St. Patty's day for corn beef and cabbage and it was like it was left over from last year. Needless to say we were a bit worried about the quality of the food for our wedding. They knocked it out of the park. 8 months later, and people still talk to us about the food at our wedding... it was that good.
The service staff is typical old school New England. Your not going to get that "Southern Hospitality Charm" here. They (front desk and hotel staff) are all short and to the point. They act like you are interrupting them everytime you ask a question. As I said, this is why New England has the reputation for being so rude... But if you are a true bred New Englander, its just par for the course.
The rooms are a bit on the disgraceful side. They are very old and outdated, maybe even a bit grungy. Yet they are quite spacious and full of potential. If they ever upgraded the old Inn and rooms like the downstairs restaurant, pub, and function hall is upgraded, this place would be a serious destination.
Again, there were A LOT of bumps along the way, but it was all worth it as the wedding was perfect. "Maris" was on her best behavior and the whole thing went off without a hitch (except for the getting hitched part). Overall, if I could do it all over again, I would have our wedding here in a heartbeat again. The road was painful at times, but it was a great day to remember at the end.
