“Will not stay there again!!!”

This was our second time staying at the Dunes Motel. We had rented 2 rooms and our room had a new refrigerator that didn't work. There are hardly no outlets, and some of the outlets didn't work. In the other room that was rented was the same thing but even worse. There was a water leak that wasn't fixed yet so the first nite my nephew, and his family came over to my room to shower. and then to top it off their refrigerator door was so rotted that it fell off!!! GROSS!!! And if you plan on going bring your own coffee cup if you want to take the coffee to your room. I went over to the office to go get a cup of coffee one morning and they had no paper cups. I asked if I can take the glass cup and they said no it cannot leave the office. I said you gotta be kidden me right!!! So I went back to my room and took the Dunkin Donuts coffee cup out of the trash and cleaned it so I can go get some coffee and go back to the room. The rooms are old fashion, wallpaper coming off the walls.. Not a good place to stay for what you pay. If you paid $50.00 anight then its worth it if that.... Stay away from this Hotel, pay alittle extra and go elsewhere, because thats what we are going to do next year....

“Great location to the beach but basic room nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

Great location to the beach but the room is barely adequate. Outdated is the word. TV has no jacks for a DVD player, bathroom is old 1950's style, Continental breakfast was just ok. The pool was nice, although we went to the beach all the time. For the price i paid and the ease it was worth it. Got it on Hotwire for 125 per night plus fees during peak time.

“Stuck in the '60's”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2010

We arrived around 10:30 at night. The office was closed up tight and had to call a number to get Jack to let us in. The room is everything I remember from traveling with my parents in the 1960's. It has never been updated. The bathroom was pink tiled with the aqua blue sink and toilet. There were only towels for two people, we were four. Huge problem, didn't want to wake up Jake for more towels. A washcloth was left hanging over the curtain rod from the last guest, ewww. The room smelled musty, and the air conditioner, which was in the closet, was mildewed. The continental breakfast was no more than cereal and coffee. Do not recommend it at all, way overpriced for what you get.

“Clean - But Just Ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2010

Spent two nights at the Dunes at the end of July after a few days in Bar Harbor. We had stayed there around 10 years ago and truly enjoyed it so we immediately looked into it again for this part of our trip to Bar Harbor. We loved the location because the Cape beaches are hard to get into and you can walk 5-10 mins. down the street and go to a public beach - great amenity! Plus, it is quiet as it is off the beaten path in a residential area.

However, we were disappointed to find that nothing seems to have been done since we were there 10 years ago. There are no elevators, so if you are traveling with alot of luggage, take a small bag to put a few things in!! The room was musty smelling and some of the wallpaper was loose. The A/C worked well, but the buttons were extremely rusted. Our biggest problem was the fact that there are few outlets and some of them do not work. This is problematic when everyone has a camera and cell phone to charge. The room was clean though!!

There is a fridge and microwave in the room - which is nice. We didn't use the pool as our time was limited. But I did see Jack out cleaning the pool early the morning we left. He and his wife (??) were pleasant and helpful with towels and more milk in the morning at breakfast. The continental breakfast is simply lacking. There was cereal, milk, plain bagels, english muffins and juice. That was about it. I think they could spruce that up a bit.

Overall, I would say that for $140/night (approx) it was a bit disappointing. I recognize that the Cape is in high season and the prices are outrageous at most, but I think they could do better for that cost per night.
