“Amazing! I wish I was still there!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

I stayed at the Summer House over Labor Day Weekend with two friends. We stayed in a two bedroom cottage which was absolutely adorable. The beds were so comfortable, great high thread count linens, spotless and LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! We all agree, this weekend could not have been better! The restaurant was phenominal, staff went above and beyond at all times and Todd, the bartender was awesome!

Peter and Danielle, the owners were onsite the whole weekend ensuring everything was going smoothly and making sure the guests were happy. This is a place you can come and relax and not have to leave, beautiful beach, pool, two restaurants and two bars on prettiest part of Nantucket! I can't wait to go back!

“Ripped Off - Stay Away”

Forget that the meal was over $1,100 for 7 people and a shared platter for three gave 3 small oysters and three little neck clams each only a small ramekin of crab meat and another of lobster - but hey, we got a ton on ice with it.
Forget that the waiter explained that there was no need to tip as he was sorry he had not been able to be as 'attentive' as he would have wished and that the gratuity was already included - $120 for serving seven people?
Forget that the food got no fancier than 'Seared Halibut' - The real crime was that we ordered Bollinger nv champagne. The waiter came out and explained the had 'run out' of it and they were 'prepared' to offer us Perrier Jouet nv which "is $20 more" for the same price. This is simply untrue. Having rung the place just now they offer both bottles at the same price - even though Perrier Jouet is a cheaper wine than Bollinger - check it on www.winesearcher.com it is around $38/bottle ex tax, Bollinger is $60/bottle ex tax from any merchant.
But as we were a family group and treating one member to a special night out we decided to avoid confrontation.
Overpriced is one thing, but fabricating tales of generosity with champagne - that really gives you the measure of a place.

“Lousy Service at Summer House Siasconset”

We had a very poor service experience at the pool and restaurant at the Summer House Siasconset. And the food was just so-so and to top it all off they charged $20 for a kid's hamburger.

Complained to the management about the experience and it took 1 month for them to follow-up after my repeated phone calls (manager never called me back as promised).

Overpriced property. Service at the Fair Street Inn was friendly but we did not get the overall services promised and included in our room rate.

“Summer House @ 27 Fair Street - Charming & relaxing Inn with excellent service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

After reading a number of less than favorable reviews about the Summer House Inn cottages and hotels on this site, our family of four (2 parents and 2 adult children) was a bit nervous about what kind of experience we would encounter at the Inn at 27 Fair Street. However, from the moment we arrived, everything was wonderful. Our rooms (we stayed in the "Heather", a quiet, two room suite in a cottage located at the back of the Inn) were nicely decorated, cozy, and clean as a whistle. The concierge and staff were pleasant and tended to our every need, including a last minute request for a roll-away bed. The concierge was very knowledgeable about all the island activities and helped us plan our day. We loved the convenience of taking the complimentary "jitney" from 27 Fair St. back and forth to the Summer House pool and beach facilities in Siasconset. But, we also loved the location of the Inn with it's proximity to the waterfront and to the hustle and bustle of downtown Main Street. Each morning, we enjoyed eating the continental breakfast buffet of healthy fresh fruits, muffins, cereal, & yogurt outdoors in the garden area. Coffee, tea, cookies, and a bottomless pitcher of iced lemon water was available all day long - excellent refreshments after a long day of walking and beaching. Our first night at the Inn we ate next door at the delicious "Figs at 29 Fair by Todd English" restaurant, housed in a historic building that dates back to 1709. The rest of our 3-day stay never disappointed us in any way. All in all, if you're looking for a relaxing, unpretentious, and comfy place to stay on Nantucket with a professional and attentive staff, this is the place for you!

“$650 per night to stay in a shack with a padlock!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

I recently booked 2 nights at the Summer House Inn in Siasconset in late June. My partner and I were trying to treat ourselves to a couple nights near the ocean. When we arrived and I was shown the cottage where we were to stay I was aghast. The place was a shack with one very small window on the outside with an electrical box next to it. The shingles and roofs of the cottages looked like they were in need of renovation. The "deck with an ocean view" was four inches off the ground with rotting planks and two adirondack chairs that faced the path that led up to the restaurant. The worst part was that the door to the shack had no window and was locked with a padlock, to which I was given a key with a small plastic key chain. Inside was quaint, and similar to the web pictures, but the bathroom was terribly misrepresented, as the bathtub, billed as "marble jacuzzi tub" was incredibly small and tucked in a corner. When we asked the owner to reconsider our reservation...there was no way I was paying that much to stay in a run down shack, he offered to "upgrade" us to a suite. When we looked at this cottage, the smell of mold and the rotting doorstep, dark inside, and the air filter (which we mistook for an air conditioner) was quite unappealing. After about two hours of dealing with the manager (who self proclaimed he as "not a nice guy" and that "no part of him wanted to refund our money") he agreed to let us out of the room if we rented a room of his back in town (also overpriced, but fortunately run by a lovely young women who knew something about customer service). In short, if you prepare yourself for the unattractiveness of the grounds and the cottages (in sore need of repair and renovation), the prickly attitude of the owner, the fact that the website lies when it comes to the outside pictures of the cottages, and you enjoy throwing your hard earned money away...stay at Summer House!!!!
