If you love rustic, this is the place to be. Walking distance from the Appalachian Trail, there are many places to hike even if the AT is too much for you. It is kind of like being at summer camp but better. The rooms have comfortable beds and a/c if needed and the inn, which serves breakfast of eggs or pancakes etc. is right in the midst of woods and streams. Trails, hammocks, friendly owners, good restaurant, nearby music & theater (in the summer), food and world class museums - I think it is perfect.

Room tip: There are no two rooms alike but each has a charm. There are also a few cabins for families and children and pets were welcome.

We just loved our recent vacation at Race Brook Lodge. It is so charming and every single person on the staff was so friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful! It was peaceful and quiet during the week, and on the weekend there were kids and dogs playing on the lawn and grown-ups chatting on the porch. The hiking trail right from the lodge connects to the Appalachian Trail. And the Stagecoach Restaurant had the best meal I've eaten in a long time. We don't get all the way to Massachusetts often, from Michigan, but I'm looking forward to going back so I can stay here again.

We try to travel for long weekends at least twice a year from Brooklyn. Race Brook is the perfect spot to explore the beauty of the Berkshires. Great hiking, great arts, great museums, great music. All close by.
I can only smile at reviews complaining about old furniture etc. Well, that is the basic idea and beauty of Race Brook. I love the rooms. Every single one of them has their own personal charm. Put together with a great sense of the environment and surrounding nature.
The entire complex is great for kids who love to play at the brook that is running through. Even a small pool. The breakfast is great. You can also always ask the friendly stuff for some extras. Everything is freshly prepared. The next door restaurant Stage Coach makes it very relaxing to just hop over for a nice dinner and walk back over to your room.
If you are looking for a special weekend. Want to get out of daily hectic life. Want to feel like visiting a family. Race Brook is the best spot.

This was our third stay here. This was the first time we've been there without snow on the ground. Very green! Nature at its best! As always we had a relaxing and comfy stay. The food at the tavern was delicious! The staff was friendly and helpful, the accommodations comfortable and homey. Can't wait to go back!

Picked this place because it was close to Berkshire, where our son is at school, and it turned out to be a real treat! All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nothing fancy, but it was all good and you won't go hungry. The owner (David) is a fascinating guy with a ton of history in the area, including former owner of the Music Inn, a legendary music venue (Google it). I didn't make it to the Stagecoach Inn next door, but enjoyed the honor bar in the common area (try the Big Elm IPA brewed right in Sheffield). Also enjoyed a hike about 30 minutes up the mountain to some beautiful waterfalls. All in all, a great rustic retreat!

Thanks for your great review! It's great that you got to spend some time with Dave. He is a local legend in the Berkshires. I'm so glad you got to visit the waterfall. I try to get up there once a week at least. Please come again soon!
All the best,
Casey
