Have you ever been to a B&B where you feel like you're visiting a relatives house, or you felt so comfortable, you swore it was your own beach house? If not..Pack your bags and head for Sandwich. The house is owned by Emily and Reale Lemieux and managed by a charming woman by the name of Sue.
My wife and I spent our 1st Anniversary weekend at the Bay Beach. One word: SPECTACULAR. Upon our arrival, we were given a quick tour of the house and told the times breakfast is served. (The homebaked cookies every evening were a nice touch too!) After that, the staff were readily available but were always in the background. We never felt that they were shadowing us. However, when we needed to ask someone a question, there was someone always available.
During breakfast, you can opt to eat at the table with others, (There are three other rooms) take your setting to the deck overlooking the beach or to your room. Breakfast consisted of various cereals, fresh fruit and a hot item. (Waffles, quiche, etc)
We stayed in the Dune Caper suite which had a beautiful view of the beach. It was on the second floor and had a small deck where you can sit and relax while watching the sunset. The bathroom was very spacious with a full bath along with a jacuzzi tub.
Every AM, Emily and Reale were perfect hosts. The quintessential couple you expect to find at a B&B. So friendly and warm, you'd swear you've known them for years. They would ask us how our previous day was, suggest "must see" sites of the Cape and were very resourceful when it came to dinner reservations or other requests. Such as...Placing flowers and my wife's anniversary gift in our room for me while we were out. -- Needless to say, she was surprised thinking throughout the day I never got her anything!
The Bay Beach is also very close to several restaurants, the closest being Horizons. It's a bit of a walk, but if you've come to Sandwich to relax and take it easy, a leisurely stroll after dinner never hurt.
We will definitely go back to the Cape and when we do, we will definitely stay at the Bay Beach. You've got the beach in the backyard and the maintown within minutes. It's an absolute crime to stay anywere else when in Sandwich.
