This three-star-rated hotel is a ripper! There, I've laid my cards on the table, with nothing up my sleeve. I'll tell it how it is with this establishment, which is more than just a place to hang your hat - you need one when walking the main drag on anything but a cloudy day. It's far more than a place to crash after a day of trudging here, sticky beaking and shopping there, and gawking and snapping away everywhere. Yes, yes, do remember to bring your camera! You'll be an orphan without one.
Oh, wait a minute. Needing a place to hang your hat - or parasol - is all very true unless you drove the two hours plus long haul from Plymouth up Cape Cod for just a day's visit or caught the ferry for only a day-trip. Been there and done that, too.
However, mere days ago my companion and I decided to stay a couple of nights in order to fully savor the P-town experience. Do be hip and remember that it's called P-town. As in Pee-town. Yes, full bladders are catered for - the place has a tsunami of eateries, all of which have bathrooms, without baths or showers. Nevertheless, one can say that Pee-town is flush with bathrooms. And the Provincetown Inn has its fair share of those - with showers!
The inn is touted as a resort - and it is! Situated on the very shores of the bay, it has sweeping views, and one can see the sun setting over the ocean. If swimming in the bay isn't your thing - shades of Jaws, lurking white pointer sharks and all of that - the inn has a large outdoor swimming pool. And it has rooms - an enormous amount of rooms. They form a huge quadrangle easily big enough to use for army boot camp square bashing.
The room we stayed in was upstairs - alas, no elevators , It was an older room, perhaps a bit small, but very comfortable. Our tariff was very modest - that's probably why our room had sweeping views of the metal roof of the adjacent first floor buildings. What the hell - it was cheap. And we received a free evening meal, valued at some $20 each, plus free continental breakfasts that had extensive choices, including hot porridge. The food was the scrumptious and plentiful. And we received a complimentary free bottle of champagne.
The evening meal was in a restaurant reeking with character. Sweeping wall murals adorn the walls. Indeed, that is the memory above all others I will recall of our two nights, three days stay at the inn. The huge wall murals, all beautifully done, are everywhere - in the lobby, restaurant, passageways ... indeed, in all the main rooms. Some along the main passage way are even reflected in the huge mirrors opposite, giving the impression that you are surrounded by scenes of yesteryear. In short, I found the Provincetown Inn to be an artistic experience. I'd go again, gladly!
