Over the years, I've had several happy visits to Ampersand, usually during the summer season but once for the New Year's holiday. I've always felt comfortable, no matter which of the rooms I've stayed in (probably six different ones). The location makes an easy walk to many of the town's attractions, but it is away from the tumult of the center of the town. The beach is as accessible as Town Hall and the wharves. The hosts, Ken and Robert, clearly try to make all of their guests comfortable. They make an effort to try out new eating places early in the season and are able to offer good advice. Robert really should write a muffin cookbook. I especially look forward to a different offering each day; they often are the starting point for getting to know other guests enjoying them in the large public living/dining room. The decor of the rooms combines a possibly surprising combination of antiques and modern design. The rooms are cleaned well daily. Another attraction for me is the beautiful garden at the back of the house, Robert's domain, which has served as the subject of some beautiful paintings by prominent Provincetown artists.

A walk down Cottage Street towards the ocean (or 'makai' as they say it in Hawaii) will charm you as you admire the gardens and the stately houses on this particular street on the West side of town (so quiet and calming). As you continue walking you will stop at 6 Cottage Street with it's white picket fence and notice that the front garden is totally unlike all others. If it's springtime, the colorful and gorgeous rises, rhododendrons, clematis, and roses seem to peek up over the top of the waist-high picket fence in a welcoming way to greet you. This is the place! Robert and Ken run a wonderful quiet, clean, and tastefully decorated B&B and we have been coming back for the past 12 years over and over and over - winter, spring and fall. Yep, I can imagine Martha Stewart persuading Robert to share his yummy muffin recipes and interesting gardening techniques and asking Ken how he manages to deftly clean/re-make a room for the next guest in record time (as well as tell what's happening in the town). Bravo Robert & Ken!

The owners were very nice. I loved the little quaint rooms. There were very imformative as to which room would best accomadate my needs. The muffins were rememberable and very tasty. Thank you.

This was our second stay at The Ampersand, and we chose a smaller room for this trip. We were on the first floor of the little house, and were initially concerned that it may be noisy or feel less private due to the location. We were pleasantly surprised that our stay was just as comfortable in that room as it was in the third floor loft room we had last October. Robert and Ken are gracious and attentive. Yes there is a young dog who is still being trained (and everyone involved was always accutely aware of his whereabouts and behavior and ready to intervene at a moments notice. Not a single wet paw found it's way to my white skirt!) Yes there is only one kind of muffin each morning (They claim a continental breakfast, not an expanded continental or a buffet). Yes they ask if they may go clean your room while you are having breakfast. (I considered this delightful and quite a service oriented approach since then I never worried about walking in on anyone when I returned to my room at various points during the day). The Ampersand is very reasonably priced for a B & B, and it is unfair to compare prices to one of the motels in town, or one of the other rooming houses that lack many features we consider essential comfort such as private baths. After reading the negative reviews I am reminded how each of use perceives our own reality through our own pair of glasses. May you enjoy your visit to P-town and the Ampersand. And may you be prepared to encounter joy and love while you are there.

A cozy, unforgettable weekend. I stayed at the Ampersand this winter and although family caretaking kept me totally occupied since then (and remiss on my review writing) I’ve often thought of my cozy, charming room. The inn and setting was lovely, refreshing and serene. In addition, the host’s were so thoughtful and gracious I felt truly taken-care of. I look forward to coming back to the Ampersand in every season!
