“Great hospitality”

We had a wonderful time staying with Kathleen and Alicia. We were a group of six (three couples in three rooms) who stayed the weekend, and couldn't have had a more pleasant experience. Both Kathleen and Alicia bent over backwards to make our stay perfect. In fact, when our car battery died, Kathleen went so far as to contact local merchants to find us a new battery, asked one to stay late on a Saturday to replace our battery for us, and then gave us a jump so we could get there.

The rooms had beautiful antique furniture and a ton of character. We actually happened to be in town for Holly Folly weekend in Provincetown, during which a number of the local inns open their doors for a tour. We saw >5 other inns and representative rooms in each, and without a doubt, rooms at the Fairbanks Inn had the most character and best 'cozy' factor out of any of them.

I'd happily stay with Kathleen and Alicia again -- and am in fact in planning phase for our next trip.

“Wonderful, as always!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

Kathleen and Alicia are the best. Each time we stay with them is sweeter than the time before. We find that the only thing that surpasses their warming welcome is their dedication to ensuring that their guests are comfortable and happy. True, the Inn is an antique that requires gentler hands, but there aren't many other establishments in Provincetown that couldn't also benefit from some elbow grease. That said, we've always found their accommodations clean, comfortable, secure, and relaxing.

Some visitors might come to Provincetown expecting a stay at the Plaza Hotel. If this is you, then perhaps you should look elsewhere -- those of us who appreciate the charm of this unspoiled and genuinely 'Provincetown' experience can only benefit. But if you're looking for a comfortable and convenient place to stay that makes you feel you're being welcomed home to the family hearth, this is defintely it.

“Best Place to Stay in Provincetown.”

The innkeepers are gracious, helpful and friendly to everyone and go out of their way to make sure all of their guests are happy and well taken care of. We have stayed in the same room for the last 7 years (Carriage House 1) as it suits our needs perfectly. They have so many rooms to choose from that everyone should be able to find the one that is right for them. We particularly like the continental breakfast that they serve every morning from 8:30 to 11:00. We like the flexibility of being able to wake up late if we want to and still have food available. A light breakfast is our preference leaving us room to enjoy our other meals at the many excellent restaurants in town. We also like being able to eat it in the main building and chatting with other guests or taking the food back to our room to eat. The location is perfect and we often go out to Commercial Street several times a day, returning with purchases and going out for more shopping and dining. We also spend time at Herring Cove Beach which is about 10 minutes away by car. If you don't have a car the shuttle bus is available for a reasonable fee to take you to most places in the local area. Our room has always been extremely clean and well maintained. The housekeeping staff is always friendly and efficient. The guests are all types of people from everywhere in the world and we enjoy this diversity because it is part of what makes Provincetown the unique and accepting town that it is. We can't say enough good things about this inn. We highly recommend it for everyone.

Room Tip: Just check their web site to view pictures of all the rooms or call them and explain your preference...

“We'll Be Back!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

We were B&B novices never staying in one before but we just loved The Fairbanks Inn and our experience there. So much so that we have returned a second time. Kathy and Alicia are so welcoming and gracious. We love the historic decor of the inn, the convenient location to town and the continental breakfast especially the homemade granola (plus there are cookies out all day long!) We are definitely planning to come back again and recommend The Fairbanks Inn to all our friends!

“Caveat emptor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

This was our first visit to an American Inn/B&B so I have purposely held back this report until I had experience of others.
My first comment has to be, that with only three rooms in use at the time we stayed why were we given no choice as to our accommodation but were put in a small room fronting on to the busy street with THE SMALLEST ENSUITE BATHROOM that it is humanly possible to devise.Suffice to say that you would have to possess the dexterity of Houdini to retrieve the soap if it fell on the shower floor. As the owners have a hectoring habit of replying to criticism can I just cut off your " If only you had let us know about your dissatisfaction with the room we
could have done something about it". Wrong! In my book if you have 6, 8 or 10 rooms they should be allocated in their order of desirability as guests arrive. If the box room that we were allocated is the third best at the Inn then God help the others.
The owners make great play on the age and antiquity of the Inn. Get a life! The place is tired - in need of some serious TLC - spend some money on it.
Last but not least (a point made by one or two others) - the "Berlin Wall ". That wonderful no-go area of the house that really helped to make one feel welcome. Having now experienced what the B&B's at Bath and Nantucket have to offer at a comparable price The Fairbanks Inn is not even at the races.

Room Tip: Try elsewhere

These guests were traveling with another couple. They specifically booked these two rooms in advance -- the least expensive of our accommodations with private bathrooms that are near each other. We had no indication when they checked in that they were unhappy with their rooms and they checked out the next morning. Our website provides a 360 virtual tour of our rooms with detailed descriptions. We have a range of rooms. Some are as large as 400 square feet with large bathrooms and full kitchens. Our rooms are priced competitively with other b&bs in Provincetown and our range of rates is reflective of the room sizes and amenities. To "allocate" our rooms in the order of the guests' arrival, as this reviewer suggests, just would not work. There would be no incentive for anyone to book a larger room at a higher price.
