We were looking for a relaxing getaway and we definitely found it at the Inn at Clamber HIll. Mark greeted us at the door and showed us to our room, which was the Charleston Room on the first floor. It was beautifully decorated and quite comfortable. The complimentary brandy was a nice touch. Mark made us a pot of tea, which we enjoyed on the back terrace. Later we explored the many paths through the woods around the house. Then we enjoyed a delicious dinner on the sun porch, which is wonderful. It is made of stone, with many windows which look out over the grounds. I enjoyed watching the mobiles made of twigs with tiny eggs hanging from them twisting in the sun. The classical music in the background added to the ambiance of the room. I wanted to take the entire room home with me. We ate on a table made of a slab of marble. The meal was simply outstanding. I ordered a salad with maytag blue cheese, walnuts and dried cranberries served on a bed of mixed greens, with a dressing that complimented all the flavors. We both chose roasted duck for our main course. Mine was made with a homemade fruit sauce and my husband chose a wild mushroom sauce, both of which were delicious. The wine list reflected the proprietors' was quite international and reasonable in price. We chose a french wine, which matched our dinner perfectly. Unfortunately, we were too full to sample the dessert offerings. Breakfast was on the same par as dinner. We returned to the sun porch in the morning to find a beautiful assortment of fresh fruit on the table and homemade cinnamon rolls, which were to die for. And that was only the beginning. The main course was a choice of french toast or eggs to order. We chose the french toast, which was made with french bread. The sausage was delicious and tasted locally sourced. The french toast was light and perfectly browned. All in all, we were sorry we had to leave after only one night. Our host and hostess were friendly, but not intrusive. And we only saw their dogs once, as they ran by the outside of the sun porch in the morning and peered in at us. We also visited their horses in their stall. The beds were quite comfortable.
