“Completely underwhelmed. Overpriced rooms and mediocre experience at best.”
We based our visit here on reviews read in TripAdvisor..and feel misled. We know the area fairly well...Petersham is a gem of trails to hike, bike and water (ponds and streams) to swim in....there is great food nearby in Barre and neighboring towns. HOWEVER, Clammer Hill Inn, is unfortunatley lacking what we were led to believe it had. Rooms were fine, linens and towels are fine..pillows are poor.....the rooms are not dirty, not perfectly clean. Under our bed had someone elses underwear-Yuk. However, the overal inn felt very heavy, and dark and actually sad....it was clearly once quite a weekend/summer home for a wealthy family..but now the house feels very heavy and dark and dour. The innkeepers Mark and Deni, I am sure when they started this venture had wonderful ideas and energy but it's hard work and we felt they were pretty burnt out. The energy in the house is very low and the service felt non existent. And don't deviate from the time when you tell them you want breakfast..if you show up early you get the evil eye...very weird. The house needs to be opened up and AIRED out...feels mungy inside. Bottom line is for the prices charged....we expected A LOT more....a greeting, some fresh flowers, air circulating through the house, maybe an afternoon offering of beverarage iced tea or lemonade....I really think the Ellis's just don't care to offer those gracious things anymore. It's a pity because one can really see the potential here..the area is sublime....go and explore Petersham, worth the trip. The bad news is there really aren't many other choices in the vicinity to stay..perhaps with more competition...Clammer Hill would step up their offereings.

At Clamber Hill we like our coffee fresh, so we ask what time to expect you for yours. When guests show up 90 minutes early we may be a little surprised, especially when they tell us they want to sleep late. In this case, fresh coffee was ready in less than five minutes along with early orange Juice.
We do offer afternoon beverages to our guests when they are here in the afternoon hours. In this case, the guests were visiting friends in the area and they didn't spend much time at the inn--it's difficult to offer anything special, but we do hope you appreciated the fact that we supplied fresh towels after your evening showers, and dried and folded the wet beach towels that were left in the room. That's an extra service, that burnt -out innkeepers normally don't provide.
We have been Innkeepers for fourteen years and take pride in providing guest services.
