“Old Inn With Lots Of Charm”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2008

This is a very old family friendly inn with lots of charm, located just across the street from Nancy's Restaurant in Oak Bluffs. We stayed on the third floor (Room 5) facing the harbor. The room was very tiny with an old queen bed that took up most of the room. The room had a window-pane door that opened up to a balcony (which you can't sit or walk on) to a beautiful view of the harbor. There is no a/c (there is a fan in the room) and no t.v. (not that you'd need t.v. with the beautiful ocean view but for those who can't go without it there is a t.v. in the main living room of the inn). The bathrooms are old looking, but kept clean, and they were always running out of toilet paper and hand towels. Also, if the bathroom on your floor is occupied (which ours was most of the time) you can always use one of the other many bathrooms throughout the inn. The inn provided shower towels (no beach towels provided) and face cloths, but they smelled a little bit like mildew (like they had been left wet in the washing machine for too long). The matress was clean but broken down and I'm happy to say no bed bugs, which was a big worry of mine. However, I suggest that you bring your own towels, sheets, pillows & cases if you're going to stay more than a weekend. There is a great wrap around porch on the main level of the house with a dozen rocking chairs for guests to sit on and enjoy the view at any time of the day or night. You can also bring a bike and lock it up on the porch. The only problem we had at the inn was a group of college girls (in the room next to ours) who smoked all day & night in their room. The smell reaked through the entire second & third floors and the innkeeper ignored it - even though it's clearly posted that it is a non-smoking establishment. My problem wasn't what they were smoking, but the fact that they were smoking in their room. The inn is very, very old with very old fire alarms (and who knows if they even work), and I didn't want to get stuck on the third floor during a fire with no fire escape ladders! The bottom line is, the price is great if you can put up with a few non-comforts of home and the possibility of rowdy rule-breaking college kids. The innkeeper is a very nice old lady. I'd certainly recommend the inn despite a few things that bugged me personally. We definately plan on going back again next season 2009.

“Attleboro House-great view of harbor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2006

This is a very old Bed & Breakfast. But , no breakfast. I stayed on the second floor where we had to share bathrooms. The bathrooms were clean. The room was clean and simple. The bed was comfortable. This was my first time staying at a Bed & Breakfast so I wasn't sure what to expect. There is a wraparound porch, so we sat outside our room on the rocking chairs that were provided and played cards on the table. The view is fabulous, you are directly across the street from the harbor. Great location, close to everything, no need for a vehicle.

“Inn is nice, stay away from the cottage”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2006

The Attleboro house seems nice and the porch was a great place to sit and chat, people watch or read a book after a fun day sightseeing. The inn was filled but the cottage behind it was available. Although this alternative is very affordable, it is not worth it. It was dirty, it smelled of a combination of dirt, dog urine and smoke. We were afraid to walk in our bare feet or sit on the couch without a cover over it. Then there were the ants. The kitchen was crawling with them. We made the best of a bad situation by spending as little time as possible in the place. With a good cleaning, some new carpeting and furniture this could be a great little cottage.

I would be ashamed to rent out something like this and take people's money.

FYI The cottage in back has nothing to do with the Attleboro House. The island was totally booked not a room to be found anywhere. We were doing a favor for this guest and the owner of the cottage.

If you are looking for a great value this is the place to stay in Oak bluff but even if your not looking for that THIS is the best place to stay in Oak bluff. It is right overlooking the harbor with great views and porche to enjoy watching the sunset at night. My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week and it was a wonderful experience!

“Beautiful, perfect!”

I had the best holiday of my life, starting in Boston, moving onto Falmouth, and then over to Marthas Vineyard for 3 days. It was the prettiest, sweetest most inviting place i have ever been to. This hotel just topped it all off! A lovely old house with a charming landlady. We stayed in the room at the top that looks over the harbour, the lightest and sunniest room. Just perfect. My mind may have been slightly clouded as i was with the love of my life but nevertheless, its a romantic, ideallic place to be.
