“Late September Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Our friends come to North Truro every year at the end of September. We decided to take the trip as well, but the cottages they always stay in were booked. So I went on-line and found Top Mast had an UNBELIEVABLE special that we took advantage of. I hope they repeat it this September/October.

We stayed in a second floor 2 room efficiency. It was comfortable, clean and well equiped. There were TV's in both rooms.

The balcony overlooked Cape Cod Bay and the sunsets over PTown were amazing. Leaving the patio door open a bit at night created a nice breeze and the sound of the surf was restful. The ocean-front unit do not have AC, but it didn't matter in late September (even though the weather was warm and sunny the whole week, what a blessing).

The Pool/Gym is very impressive. Be sure to use it.

Room Tip: Get a Beachfront unit. It's well worth a few bucks more.

“Nice stay !!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

Stayed midweek for a great rate in mid October, room on the beach. Unseasonably warm weather, the area was gorgeous. The traffic/tourists are much lighter this time of year. Clean room, easy trip to Provincetown and had dinner in Wellfleet. Everything was great, only complaint, the refrigerator was so loud I had to unplug it but that was simple enough.
Great getaway!

“Our New Favorite Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

We usually stay up the road (Rte. 6A) in a cottage, but I’ve been tempted to try Top Mast many times because of their money-saving off-season specials. It seemed perfect to try it out on a recent vacation with my two (middle aged) sisters and their spouses, because it was right on the beach, and we could have our privacy yet be nearby. Top Mast staff assigned us to 3 adjacent one-room efficiencies on the 2nd floor, which worked out perfectly.

This family business has been around for a long time, and the owners staff the premises every day. They are accommodating and knowledgeable, and suggested excellent restaurants (and low priced specials) based upon our preferences and timing. Our reservations were extremely confusing, as one sister had cancelled one night and another sister had erroneously cut my stay short, and staff worked with us to get it all right. There was a problem with our room not being cleaned a couple of times (during 10 days), and management solved that creatively in both cases. One night there was an extremely loud party below us, and management came out and spoke with the offenders at my request, but they continued to be loud. Management gave us a choice of different rooms to move to the next day, and moved all of our luggage and belongings for us, as well as keeping my laptop safely in their office during the move.

You cannot beat this beach location. It’s within steps of the Bay, with BBQ area overlooking it. Second floor rooms have private decks where you can view the sunset over the water. Management let us know about their storeroom, filled with abandoned coolers, chairs, and BBQs (and even charcoal) that we were welcome to use (and did!) during our stay. There is a gorgeous large indoor pool across the street, along with a kiddie pool and spa (though the latter had a strong chlorine smell and was often crowded.) There is plenty of space for both adults and kids to swim, and even a water slide.

We stayed in two kinds of rooms. The first was in the newer buildings, an efficiency with two double beds. There was plenty of room, except that the bathroom and shower were quite small and darkish. And of course the beds are small by modern standards. There is a microwave, coffeemaker, stovetop, full size fridge, and small sink in the kitchenette.

The efficiency in the older building had one queen bed and a larger bathroom with bathtub and good lighting, but bedroom is proportionally smaller. The kitchen was equipped the same, but the refrigerator was quite old and loud, so we turned it off at night and used a cooler (so we could hear the waves!). Try to get a room away from the ice machine if you choose this kind of room; it’s also loud. Closet space is rather more rustic than in double bed rooms.

Our stay here was so enjoyable that next time my husband and I stay on the Outer Cape we’ll be staying at Top Mast instead of our usual cottage. Two thumbs up!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the ice machine

“Had a great time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

Loved this resort. Went with my counsins and we had an outstanding time. I'd like to point out that they have anti-bedbug casings on their mattresses. That was the first thing I checked before I even brought my luggage in and I was very happy to find out they were on top of it. Can't recommend this place enough and we plan to go back again next year.

Room Tip: Not a bad one in any of the three buildings. All have ocean views.

“Pros far outweigh the cons”

We had such a pleasant stay here that we extended our trip from 5 to 6 nights there. You can't beat leaving your balcony door open a few inches all night and falling asleep to the sound of the waves. We stayed in a second floor unit (not an efficiency). Small quibbles: too-soft mattress, not enough outlets (had to unplug the microwave so as to plug in and operate the coffee maker), no fan in the bathroom, and my everlasting plea to hotels everywhere: more storage! Hooks and shelves on the walls! Especially for wet towels and bathing suits. Please! Also, although a strict no-smoking rule is clearly posted everywhere, I smelled cigarette smoke more than once through the open balcony door, and saw a guy light up on a lower deck (chose not to rat him out). During our visit we were allowed to take keys to have a look at a couple of efficiency units; one defintely had that smoked-in smell - yuck. On the plus side, it was very convenient to be able to make coffee (filters are provided; we brought our own coffee, and the fridg was large enough for plenty of cartons, cans, bottles, etc.). There is also a small market close by where my husband went every morning for coffee and pastry. Dish liquid and a sponge are provided for bathroom sink washing. Plenty of dish-, glass- and silverware is provided. We found a couple of things not working quite right and they were attended to promptly and properly. I caused damage to the screen slider by accident, and offered to pay for repair, but it was simply fixed (replaced?) without comment. The pool facility is very nice, but I suggest going early in the day before kids soak every surface. The motel's location, proximity to the beach, view, and the nice helpful owners make this a place we will certainly return to.
