“We would go back if in the area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

BW, Dartmouth Inn, North Dartmouth, MA
July 6-13, 2011

Front desk staff outstanding, esp. Ashley

From the first day, problem with a black rectangle on TV screen. Unable to replace the set or get it repaired during the whole week of our stay. They finally found a replacement set the last day of our stay.

We had asked for a microwave and refrigerator to be in the room during our stay. The refrigerator was plugged in where the coffee maker would have been, but the coffee maker and microwave were not plugged in. Had to ask for someone to take care of it. Man came with an extension cord with multi-socket power strip and plugged everything in.

Breakfast uninspiring, but morning of 7/12 there was not enough food to cook. Later, a
Front Desk person went out to buy some eggs, bacon and oatmeal.

I have many times commented about the Wayfarer's Inn, in Kingman, AZ, as an example of just how good breakfast can be if the management really tries to please. This one is a far cry from that standard.

The bottom of the tub very slippery, and no non-slip mats available - supposedly on order.
We were told to use an extra bathmat on the floor of the tub. So, the next day the maid took both bathmats and left only one.

We never were sure what we would find when we came back to the room - sometimes the
wastebaskets would not be emptied, or the empty water bottles left beside the wastebasket in the bathroom would be left (put beside wastebasket for recycling), or washcloths would not be replaced, or hand towels not replaced - always the ice bucket liner would not be replaced or even the bucket emptied.

Problems controlling the cooler - set desired temperature at 75 degrees, just to get the blower to stop, but the blower would keep blowing cold air. By 10:10 AM, man had not arrived to adjust the system.

Toilet seat was loose, maintenance man fixed it.

Every day, one or both cards had to be reprogrammed or replaced.

This hotel has the best lighting we have experienced in a long time. They must be buying a higher wattage circular bulb.

Room Tip: Make your firm reservation well in advance to arrival, at least half a day. Give them time to arrang...

Thank you for your feedback as this is important to hear what areas we can improve on and what areas we are doing well. I will look into contacting the Wayfarer's Inn to see if there are any ideas we can boorow to improve our breakfast as you suggest. We hope to see you back in the future and we will work on improving the areas that you have mentioned. Thank you.

“property was ok.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

Room a little smaller than normal and it smelled funny, i.e. like a sweaty gym. I actually bought a scented candle because it really bothered me. Upholstered bench was stained and the furnishings/decor were a little outdated but other than that stay was ok. Nice lobby and property. The free breakfast was actually a little better than most others we have had. The scrambled eggs were fresh, not the rubbery, flat circular ones we don't even bother with at other hotels. For the price it was an ok stay.

Thank you for your feedback, after reading your review we found that there was a leak from the air conditioner that was causing the mildew smell in the room and it has been repaired. The Best Western Dartmouth is under new Ownership and Management now and is working to improve the quality of our hotel. Thank you again for your review as your satisfaction is crucial to our sucess.

“CON ARTISTS & DISGUSTING ROOMS”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2011

CON ARTISTS!!! if you want to get ripped off stay here! They charged my credit card 3 times for a one night stay I paid cash for. They then proceeded to charge my card 3 weeks after my stay! BEWARE they save everyone's credit card info forever and will charge your card UN authorized. Not only are they con artists but rude, don't have managers on duty EVER and their rooms have cockroaches and smell of cat urine. Worst hotel and service I've ever encountered!!

This guest stayed 2 nights at our hotel and we have documentation and security footage to prove it. The guest did not pay cash and was only charged one time on her credit card for one night. We have all the documentation to prove this as well. Her credit card declined at check out and took 2 weeks of our credit card processing for it to go through as it was debit card that did not have a sufficient balance. The gest has filed numerous disputes including a chargeback all found in our favor. We would request this review be pulled as it is completely untrue and was solely made to hurt our hotels reputation. We are currently considering legal action against this person for these constant derogatory remarks as well as legal action to recouperate the ony the guest still owes us.

“Not too bad....not so great.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2011

Just like OR-RoadWarrior reported in 7/10, walls are EXTREMELY paper thin!!! Guy is right now coughing his head off in the next room, and this place is empty. Why did the front desk NOT space people out, I'll never know. Stuck here tomorrow ready for a Nor'Easter heading our way, so this should be fun. Hope he isn't coughing throughout the night....lovely.

Upon checking in to room, desk clerk was very friendly, but their computer was down so she had to manually check me in. No problem there. Got to room, no hair dryer (space was empty on wall), no iron, no phone book, no Guest Directory. Latter two are small things, but important to me as a biz traveler. Former two VITALLY important. But, desk clerk and housekeeping got right on it. They responded most expeditiously.

Heard this property recently is with new ownership, so that can explain some, if not most, of the things.

The loud neighbors is extremely annoying to me....need to do something about the thin walls, guys!

“OK -- not great, not awful, a bit dated.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2010

Booked the hotel through Hotwire. We stayed there one night in early August 2010. It was a bit of a drive from Newport (35 min. or so), which we'd visited during the day. I'd requested a room with 2 beds, but they gave us a room with a bed and fold-out sofa bed. However, we were moved to another room when I asked.

I don't know much about Mass or Rhode Island, but I sensed that the Best Western is on an old highway that was a main thoroughfare and got lots of traffic 30+ years ago, and now is sort of run down. For us, that was interesting, providing more character than, say, a chain motel that's 1/2 mile from an interstate exit in Anywhere USA. The hotel looked a bit dated, but I felt it was clean. We didn't swim, but the pool was small and enclosed and just opposite the elevator- you could smell chlorine in the hall.

Our room was clean, the beds were comfortable. The TV worked fine. The negatives were two: 1. the bathtub was really slow to drain, so water puddled at your ankles when you showered. But in fairness to the hotel, I didn't call and point it out, it was late, we were tired and just wanted to rest. 2. A shelf or something had become detached in the tub area, so there was just a strip of caulk and glue where the shelf should have been. The bathroom looked recently renovated, so that was too bad that the shelf was missing.

Continental breakfast was so-so. Juice, coffee, pastries, cereal, some pre-cooked hot breakfast items which my son said were just lukewarm.

The elevators made some squeaking noises.

It was about a 10 min. drive to New Bedford, which we drove to that evening for supper.

All in all, it was not an especially great bargain, but we had no bad experiences, just nothing special. I did like seeing a part of Mass that was not touristy. We chose that location also because it was on the way, more or less, to Plymouth, our next stop.
