Great hotel. Comfy beds. It is fun to sit by the fire and play games and have a cocktail. Tasty breakfast is included. The place to stay if visiting North Adams.

This is the third time I've stayed at The Porches. It's one of my favorite hotels-- nicely appointed rooms with the feel of a bed & breakfast. Retro-modern decorations are out of the ordinary, fun and clean. I can't help but think of the people who used to live in these houses when they were new. The breakfast is good, with a nice selection of fresh pastries, good granola, yogurt, etc.
I do wish there were more food options for other meals. I've always visited in the winter and it's a bit of a cold walk to restaurants. The doors are a bit noisy.

This place is a little slice of heaven in North Adams. My partner and I have been going there yearly, and half the reason why we keep going back is because of the beauty of Porches, the great staff, and the comfort. This place is a must if you are going to be in the general area.

The inn's website is spot on with its description of this property. The rooms are all newly completed and are quaint, tasteful, clean and resemble the historic character of the guest houses. We stayed in a one-bedroom suite which was just right for a one nights stay while skiing in the Berkshires. The toiletries, linens and furnishings are all very nice. The bed was comfortable too. Breakfast was basic continental but very fresh with nice choices -- no Welches jelly, but Dickenson's jam for your criossants. This says it all. The nightly rates are very reasonable too.

The big issue with this hotel is its location. It is right across from Mass MOCA which is in an old electric factory that still looks like an electric factory, albeit abandoned. The front rooms are right on the road. We had one of those. It is noisy all night with trucks and cars traversing the Berkshires for whatever reason. I never knew the Berkshires were so busy. Our room was also vibrating all night from what we assumed were HVAC compressors somewhere beneath our floor. This, and the passing traffic, caused the decorative plates which hung on the walls to vibrate all night. They sounded like a fire bell.

North Adams itself is nothing special and there are much better towns in the Berkshires to stay in (like Williamstown next door). We visit the Berkshires 1-2 times per winter for skiing and wouldn't stay here again because of the location. If they picked this inn up and put it somewhere else (like Stockbridge) it would be the gem of the Berkshires.
