We had a great weekend on the house boat! Close enough to downtown restaurants and shops. It was a quick cab ride to and from. Hotel staff were very accomodating and addressed all our needs in a timely fashion. The rooms on the boat are laid out perfectly with a view of the river from both the open livingroom/kitchen and from the decent size bedroom. There is a loft that can be used as well. A unique experience. We loved every minute!

I stayed on the House boat. We had the best time. You can sit on the deck and watch the boats go by. You feel the roll of the water and enjoy the ride without going anywhere. No reason to leave. Great kitchen! Close to everything if you really want to get off the water.

We enjoyed our stay at the Essex Inn. The breakfast part of the B&B was pretty weak, but the room was really nice, the staff friendly and helpful. And the location was perfect for exploring the town. A nice 1 mile walk to the train station and you can be in Boston in 45min. Overall nice place, but dont hang around for breakfast.

We had a one night stay in Newburyport on a recent trip around NE USA.

Essex Street Inn was recommended in the Lonely Plant travel guide we had but we were disappointed by the size of room, which was however nicely decorated.

The other disappointment was breakfast, which was laid out under the stairs and a small room next to it.

With a fairly pricey $160 plus taxes cost for the night, we thought value was not great.

The location is very good though, just off the main street and we really enjoyed the town.
