“A Wonderful Little Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2008

On Main street in Middleboro, sits a beautiful gem, decorated with classic 1800's charm. The necessary appointments that go along with modern comfort never interfer with the historic ambiance of this grand old house. When you have breakfast on the garden patio and the innkeepers, Cheryl and Brad bring out breakfast, you're reminded of how gracious New England is. Every room of the house brings you back to a time when men like John Quincy Adams would come and visit his friend, Mr. Eddy, and they would sit in the same parlor you're sharing now. The location is perfect for visitinhg Cape Cod, Plymouth, and other small towns. The highway to the the Caoe gets crazy quickly, so timing is everything. Local entertainment includes historic sightseeing, oceanfront excursions, and wide open spaces for nature walks. For those of you who need to shop, there is no shortage of quaint choices.. Cheryl is a warm andconsiderate host, sharing her life with you, enlightening you every day. Brad is the perfect match to her high energy, and his humor and friendly nature is delightful. The breakfasts are gourmet all the way, with more than enough to satisfy any appetite. Home baked breads, seasonal fruits and perfect omlettes are all specactular. The bathrooms are small but functional. There isn't a bad bedroom in the whole house. If bed and breakfast visits are your thing, and New England is in your future, you will be plesed with the Eddy house. It isn't every day you can stay in a house that's in the National Historic Registry of Houses, making this particular experience truly special.

“The Most Amazing Food”

The owners, Cheryl & Brad are quite friendly. Cheryl & Brad are a font of information, and will provide you with ideas for places to visit, things to do, where to eat, and how to get there.

If you plan on visiting the Mayflower II and the Plymouth Plantation, they can provide you with a discount pass. This will give you access to both for only $5 per person (a savings of $19 per person!).

The house itself is in beautiful condition considering that it was built in 1831. Lots of parking. The house is filled with antiques they acquired since opening the bed & breakfast. My favourites were the stereoscopes that they let the guests use. They also have a few phonographs which they will play for guests upon request, as well as an assortment of other interesting things.

We stayed in the Cranberry Room. It is extremely clean and beautifully decorated. It has a beautiful king size bed, which was extremely comfortable to sleep in. There is a small TV hidden away, and a dresser. It connects to a small, but functional private bathroom. They provide Tom's all natural soap and toothpaste, but no shampoo or moisturizer, so bring your own.

The other rooms available are smaller, but just as beautifully decorated.

The food was exceptional. They cook with fresh lobster that they catch themselves. The first morning we had breakfast on the porch:
- fresh fruit
- juice, coffee or tea
- freshly baked chocolate chip muffins
- spinach quiche
- herbed potatoes

the second morning we had for breakfast inside:
- fresh fruit
- juice, coffee or tea
- spinach souffle
- lobster omlette
- herbed potatoes

No wonder they won the 2005 award for "Best Breakfast in New England".

While you're at the Plymouth Plantation, be sure to pick up a copy of New England Bed & Breakfast Recipes. It includes some recipes from the Zachariah Eddy House that you can get Cheryl to sign for you.

The prices are quite reasonable when you consider:
1 - the gourmet breakfast you get each morning. The serving sizes are quite ample, and the food is filling.
2 - the savings when you visit the plymouth plantation & mayflower
3 - there is no additional taxes on the cost of the rooms

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this bed & breakfast to anyone visiting the area.
