I booked this hotel based on the advice of other travelers on Trip Advisor. Hotel was nice, rooms large, etc. On last day my wife noticed bites on her arm. She thought they might be mosquito bites. When we got home, she found more on her back and leg. She called a doctor who confirmed based on the bite pattern that they were caused by bedbugs. Over the next 2-3 days the bites got larger and very red. I immediately contacted Hyatt with issue and offered to send pictures I took of the bites. 11 days later they emailed me to say they found no problems in the room. Since I snore, my wife and I had separate beds. I had no problem. Hyatt did not deny where she was bitten just no issue. What kind of response is that?

Obviously I could not recommend this hotel and for that matter, based on the total lack of customer service, recommend the Hyatt organization. I am stunned by the lack of concern and the time to address an issue that could have been greater. 11 days to respond? And the response was, too bad!

Management response from gm_medford, Manager
(Management representative)
9 Oct 2009
We are sorry that the guest encountered a problem during their trip. After the guest's call to our Customer Service line our pest control company thoroughly inspected the room and found no evidence of bedbugs or anything else. As noted in the response to the guest, 5 days after the intial call, we do not question the bites themselves, only the source of the activity as it was not the hotel.

We've stayed at this hotel twice when visiting Tufts and were pleased both times. On this trip we arrived at 11am -- check-in is normally at 4pm -- but they had no problem with letting us check-in early. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially when it came to arranging the free shuttle bus to Tufts. It took us right to the dorm. The shuttle does have somewhat limited hours, so sometimes we needed a cab, which came within a few minutes when called for us. We had a king room with a pull-out sofa bed in the living area. It's not really a one-bedroom suite, as there's no door separating the living room from the bedroom. Usually we prefer the privacy of separate rooms if we travel with our 2 teenagers, but on this trip our high school daughter was staying overnight in a dorm. We found the bed comfortable and liked having a large screen high-def TV. Free wireless internet was great, too. So was the free breakfast -- good selection of foods, and they'll custom cook your eggs the way you like them. The hotel was a good deal because we got the Tufts discount rate. We will definitely stay here again when visiting Tufts.

They Hyatt Place in Medford was the gathering spot for a bunch of friends from NJ who traveled to Boston to celebrate our friend's 30th birthday. First impressions of the hotel were excellent. It was very clean, had secure underground parking, very spacious rooms, modern styling, fresh smell (automatic dispensers spray a lovely scent in the lobby). Oh and the bed was really comfortable, too. One thing I wasn't thrilled with was that the bathtub seemed to be curved where you stand, rather than flat, which kind of made it difficult to keep balance.

As far as convenience goes, there's a cafe and small bar on the ground floor that had a decent selection of sandwiches, breakfast items, snacks and beverages. The hotel doesn't have a full restaurant and bar -- but what's there certainly suffices. And the town's main street is only a couple of minutes away, on foot, with drug stores, specialty shops and restaurants to choose from.

I'd highly recommend this hotel. Though we didn't do any tourist-related things in Boston, I believe the hotel is only maybe 10 minutes away, driving, from the city. The only reason I wouldn't give this hotel five stars is for the simple fact that it's not luxury. But, the property excels in all categories for nice mid-range accommodations.

29 Jul 2009 | Trip type: Solo travel

I stayed at the Hyatt for 4 nights in July. As a solo female traveller I was happy to find out the hotel offered a shuttle to and from the subway. However, this was available on only one day due to the shuttle being on contract to a run to the airport. There was a bus stop across the street and it was only a ten minute ride to the T station.

The room was a great size with a separate sitting area. This was particularly nice as I have been travelling for a while and it was great to feel like I had a living space as well. The room was very modern. I was suprised to find the bathroom less than updated. My shower had old patched holes that looked to be rusty or moulding. The bathroom certainly did not fit with the rest of the room.

Overall I was expecting more for the money. If you are looking for a larger room with space to spread out this is definitely the place for you.

We stayed at Hyatt Medford for a 3-day weekend in july 2009. The staff was very polite and welcoming at our arrival. Rooms are surprisingly large and comfortable, especially if you're travelling with yound children who need some place to move around (half the room is actually a spacious living room). The hotel has been recently renovated, and it is very clean. The hotel is easy to access, near one of Boston highways, and relatively close to touristic areas by car. It is also within a few minutes of Alewife subway station, if your want to take the subway to the center of Boston. The breakfast was fine, offering choices of fresh fruits, yogourt and different types of bread, although during the "rush hour" some people lacked space to be seated and had to wait for a few minutes. Finally, as our children forgot their teddy bears in the room, we were impressed by the fact that the hotel staff took the time to send it over to our home, at their own expense, within a week... Great service!

We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a upper-middle class hotel with free parking and breakfast included in the Boston area. We would go back to this hotel anytime in the future.
