We stayed at the Oceanwatch for one night of our honeymoon. However, since this is our second marriage - we've been around. For our honeymoon, we traveled up and down the New England coast, staying at a different bed and breakfast each night. I used to live in Marblehead, and was excited at the thought of staying right out over Fort Sewall. I wanted to share the fantastic ocean view with my new hubby. What a disappointment! We arrived very late, so we didn't get to partake in the usual gabfest in the sitting room with the owners. But I soon realized, it would not have happened, regardless of what time we arrived. There was a white board with a note, asking us to ring the bell. We rang the bell and the owner opened the door about two inches, sticking the key at our face. I can't remember "exactly", but I am not sure she even greeted us. The beds were hard and lumpy. The rooms were definately Laura Ashley from the 80's. The bathrooms were tiny, and hardly allowed any room for getting ready in the morning! The television was about a 12 inch, from the 80's as well. Granted, we weren't there to watch tv, but the whole room gave an atmosphere of being outdated. In the morning, we found cold rolls and cereal in the "sitting room" which consisted of wicker furniture - nothing comfy. We were given one small pot of coffee. As we were leaving, we ran onto a couple checking in. They said they come every year - and how much they LOVE the place! Go figure! I guess some people prefer to be left alone and enjoy a cold, unfriendly staff. My husband and I enjoy meeting the bed and breakfast owners. You can find out the best places to eat and visit in the area. Most owners also love hearing about our part of the country and our travels. So maybe, it is a "personal taste" thing. After raving to my hubby about Marblehead and how beautiful the town is (and how friendly the town people are) it was a huge let down! It is ashamed that such a beautiful ocean view is wasted here!
