This was our fourth trip to Cranwell and while the resort, rooms and dining were what we've come to expect we were greatly disappointed in the spa. Unfortunately for us we chose a busy weekend and there was a family reunion of sorts with a large amount of children. While I can't hold the resort responsible for a bad choice of weekend on our part, I do hold the spa staff responsible for the way they let the kids take over the spa. At one time I counted over 30 kids in the pool. Again, not something I can hold the resort or spa staff responsible for however these kids were in the locker rooms, in the "quiet" rooms, in the fitness area and for that I DO hold the spa staff responsible. It was so disruptive and "unspa like" my wife and I cancelled our appointments and went to Canyon Ranch where the spa staff was much more professional.

We may or may not return to Cranwell, I very much liked Canyon Ranch and while pricier, you do get what you pay for.

While the room I was given was larger, it was also very old in it's furnishings and fixtures. Paint was coming off the wall in places. I'm sure it was fantastic in the sixties. The grounds are fine and the location in Lenox is great. It's not worth the money today.

We took advantage of the weekend special at Cranwell this past weekend and what a treat! The pool is wonderful, the work-out rooms has just the right equipment and the whirlpool and sauna the best way to end the workout. And, Mary in the women's locker room will help you out, even when you foolishly leave your earrings in the pocket of the robe that you tossed into the "used robes" bin.....! Then we topped off the workout with a wonderful meal at the restaurant on-site. An amazing mansion full of great history served up by the gentleman who lead us to our table (whose name, I am sorry, I missed) and our food was fabulous. Darlene was with us every part of our meal with great suggestions and pleasant conversation as well as discrete table service.

The facility is fine but I did not find them to be flexible. The positives: our room was nice and a good size and the place is pretty. The negatives: It is expensive, the place was relatively empty when we were there (we checked out on a Monday in January) and when we asked if we could check out at 2 PM they told us that each hour past noon was an extra $50. Also, the treatments at the spa were OK, our group had 6 spa treatments, 2 were below average, 3 were average, 1 was above average (as compared to other places for similar treatments), lastly, I didn't like that they quoted a price for the treatments and then charge and automatically (prior to the treatment) include a 20% tip. Either quote a higher price or allow the customer to decide on the tip. That might explain the below average treatments since there was no financial incentive to do better. Another positive is that I think the suites would be good for families.
