“One of the Worst!”

When booking this hotel you would never know that they work with the state of Massachusetts and half of this hotel houses Section 8/HUD/Welfare recipients.

This hotel was:

LOUD (stereos blasting at all hours of the night, school busses picking up all the "residents" screaming children)
DIRTY (mold found in the tiles of the bathroom tub)
USAFE (car break-ins in the parking lot)

Had I known the hotel was section 8/HUD/Welfare hotel I would have NEVER booked it for my state. It was hard to get a good nights sleep with so many "residents" coming and going throughout the evening. The bus stop was right outside our room window and for 30 minutes each morning all I could hear were kids crying, their parents talking so loudly to their kids and other residents it was impossible to sleep.

The elevator closest to the lobby didn't work.

My advice to anyone considering this hotel would be to find a different one. It's a place I will never stay at again.

Room Tip: Avoid any room near the main entrance as you'll have multiple busses pulling up to pick the kids...

“One of the Best Kept Secrets”

While visiting family in Massachusetts, we looked for a reasonable hotel midway between NY and Boston. Holyoke Holiday Inn was a pleasant surprise with spacious rooms at very reasonable rates, near a number of major roads for easy travel.

“Helpful management, clean and spacious rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

After losing power in Connecticut after our October freak snowstorm, we were frantic to find a hotel to stay at as I have a brain disease and my husband is undergoing chemo. We drove around for 6 hours one evening trying to find a hotel that wasn't booked up already. I went through Expedia and was given 2 rooms (1 King bed/2 Double Beds, across the hall from each other), so I jumped at the chance. When I arrived I stood in line with 20 people ahead of me checking in, it was madness but a controlled madness as everyone was stressed from this storm. After getting to the front desk I was told that the hotel was not honoring any Expedia reservations as their system was down and Expedia was not supposed to be booking anyone into the hotel since they were filled to capacity. At this point, with 3 kids in tow I thought we were going back to our freezing cold house with no power. I was then approached by the manager who asked me what happened and I told her. She told me not to worry, they would honor the Expedia reservations and gave us our 2 rooms. The 2 Double Bed room was large and very clean, bathrooms were clean, there were enough towels for all of us and the King sized room was even nicer. The beds were hard in the double bed room, but at that point we didn't care, we had heat, electricity and a bed to sleep in. Hotel housekeeping actually listens to the Do Not disturb sign if you leave it on your door and does not bother you at all. When I asked for extra towels, another blanket or extra pillows, I was always helped by the housekeeping staff immediately. We stayed 7 days in this hotel and got to know the staff well and each and every one of them was wonderful to us (and the Friendly's Restaurant employees too). This hotel isn't fancy, but it is cleaner than a motel and they did a good job on renovating it. Just a FYI: The 4th floor does house "community service" people, but they are kept in a certain wing of the hotel so if you are worried about someone openly using drugs or kids running around in the hallways, I never encountered any of that in all of the 7 days we were there. Every person we dealt with at this hotel went far and above to make us feel comfortable in this stressful time in our lives. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: 4th floor is the Concierge floor able to get to with your card key in the elevator only, they offer...

“I was so worried for nothing! This hotel was a great value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

I had read many reviews of this property that had me very concerned. I needed two rooms so I needed a budget priced hotel. Keeping my expectations low at arrival, I was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel was very clean. The two rooms were connecting and located on the 1st floor near the fitness club. The hotel has an arcade, pool (although closed while I was there) and a small fitness room. We utilized the attached Friendly's Restaurant for ice cream and breakfast to go which was very convenient. Although I believed we were entitled to a complimentary continental breakfast, we learned at check in that the hotel only offered that amenity during the week. Really, not a big deal to us as coffee was fresh and free near the lobby and that is what was most important. There is a very large mall just down the road with casual dining restaurants for dinner. We did not have the need to request extra blanket, pillows or towels, etc. There were 4 pillows on each bed. That seemed sufficient. There is a small bar in the lobby which is a nice touch in my opinion. The crowd was small and well behaved, most likely hotel conference guests. I thoroughly checked the beds as I do in every hotel I stay in and saw no evidence of bedbugs or stains on the sheets. I would not hesitate to stay there again if I return to the Springfield area.

“Terrible service!! Terrible experience!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011 via mobile

Worst customer service... Not very clean, smelled horriblebin hallway and room. Heard all noise from hallway and neighboring rooms. Ended up with a king size bed for 4 people and was told no extra blankets or pillows were available because it was a first come first serve basis and the hotel was at full capacity because of the homeless shelter it doubles as. We were payig to stay there and couldn't get what we needed while the people staying for free got everything they needed. And the front desk/security guard who we spoke to were very rude and condecending. Will never go back
