“In desperate need of an upgrade”

We stayed here for a wedding that was taking place next door at the Delaney House. I was really shocked at how worn this place was. The couch in the lobby was filthy. I picked up a magazine in the lobby and it was from 2008! My room was freezing the first night. The wall thermostat did not work, and the wall heater was blowing cold air. Wallpaper was peeling off the wall. The bedspread was old and gross. Nothing at the hotel was working. The gas fireplace in our room, ice machines, pool, laundry...all out of service. It really was a very unpleasant experience. I provided this feedback via a survey and did receive an email from the Manager indicating they were going to give me a partial refund, which I thought was reasonable given my stay. However, that has not happened as of yet. Although the hotel is convenient if you have a function at the Delaney house, it is not worth it to stay here. Go elsewhere!

“Worn but location, location, location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

This was the first time we stayed at a Country Inn and Suites. I don't know if it's indicative of the chain but this place seemed like a "wannabe" as in it "wanted to be" a Holiday Inn Express or something of similar grade but couldn't quite manage it. The bed was comfortable and clean and the room was quiet. The desk and easy chair in the room were oddly small. The carpets in the halls and elevator, as reported by others, could really use a good cleaning. The small pool and the hot tub were not working and the digital floor numbers in the elevator had been scrambled by a power outage. The breakfast was the usual make-it-yourself waffles, french toast and sausage in warming pans, cereal, juice and coffee. The Delaney House restaurant attached is an upscale steak house. There is also a slightly less expensive bar and grill.
On the other hand the staff was wonderful - warm and responsive. This is not a destination hotel - it's located between two major roads: US 5 and I91 - but it's in a lovely setting and the road noise is minimal. In front of the hotel is the Connecticut River and it's also surrounded by the Holyoke range of mountains (eastern mountains.) This is not a hotel to spend a day in but it's an acceptable place to sleep while visiting a culturally rich and naturally beautiful area.

“Declining Quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

My wife and I have stayed at the Country Inn and Suites in Holyoke, MA many times. My wife grew up in the area and we frequently need lodging in the area as we visit family. This hotel is in need of updates and renovations and deferred maintenance has taken its toll. Below are some issues you should consider before choosing to stay at this hotel:

(1) During our past three visits spanning two years, the pool and hot tub have been out of order.
(2) The carpets in this hotel are aged and need to be replaced - in the corridors they are actually starting to come up.
(3) The breakfast is not competitive with other hotels. Either do continental well or do a hot breakfast. What is served is somewhere in limbo between the two.
(4) This hotel now photo copies your ID upon checking in. I do not consider this an acceptable practice and was upset that I had to request they don't.

What is good:

The dining facility on the grounds of the hotel is amazing - The Delaney House is an amazing dining experience.

This hotel is clean (with the exception of stains on the carpet due more to age than care).

The staff is very friendly.

I recommend you stay at this hotel FOR THE RIGHT PRICE. If all things are equal, the Holiday Inn Express in Westfield or the Hilton Garden Inn in Springfield are better facilities. Hopefully the owner of this hotel gets there act together and restores this hotel to a competitive condition in the not to distant future.

“Friendly staff but not as clean as I would like”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

The staff throughout the hotel was very friendly. The pool was not working. We were told this was due to the recent snow storm in the area. The pool temp was 60 degrees and unusable. The layout of the room was very nice. However, some improvements need to be made in the cleaning. Tub/shower had spots of mold, tears and stains on the bedspread, lots of dirt behind the dresser, TV very dusty, peeling wallpape, cigarette butt in the sink drain (in a non-smoking room) because the plug was missing, water pressure very weak in shower. During our stay someone also had their car broken into while parked in the front lot (while security supposedly on duty). The hotel also advertised WiFi but that is only accessible from the lobby and not the room.

“This is a very nice & clean hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

We stayed here recently due to a power outage in the area. This was a wide spread outage due to a snowstorm. The hotel staff was very accommodating and allowed us early check-in. Even though the hotel was sold out the staff attempted to locate individuals hotel rooms at other hotels. The manager called every hotel within a 50 mile radius attempting to locate vacancies for individuals in the lobby! The breakfast was decent and the hotel was very clean. The pool was closed due to the recent power outage in this area.
