“Convenient spot, good space for families”

This was our second time staying at Vacation Village, for an annual family ski weekend at Jiminy Peak. Units are set up as separate one-bedroom suites; you can book either an "A" unit or a "B" unit. A units are larger than B units, in terms of square footage and kitchen (e.g., A unit has a full kitchen, B unit is more of a "kitchenette"). All units have gas fireplaces, tvs in living area (with dvd player) and bedroom, large (almost ridiculously so) bathrooms, pull-out sofabed in living area, full kitchen w/utensils, dishware and limited cookware in large unit (smaller has a glorified hot plate instead of a stove), small decks, community washer and dryer room available on each floor. There are in-bedroom jacuzzi tubs in the A units.

You can also book adjoining A and B units, which makes it easy for families/friends traveling together to have room to spread out. That way, too, adults can be in one unit and kids in the other which is helpful for movietime, naptimes or early bedtimes. Value is decent, as we paid about $500 for the two units for a two-night weekend stay ($125/night per unit).

Pros: Across the street from Jiminy Peak (though oddly, there's no shuttle and no ski conditions info provided at the lobby desk about JP... though conditions are provided about other nearby ski areas). Room to spread out. Large central building with an indoor pool, outdoor hot tub, locker rooms, game room, comfortable lobby area with couches and fireplace.

Less-than-great: Units are somewhat under-maintained. In our unit, none of the interior doors actually latched shut (problematic when bathroom doors flew open) and on the other unit the exterior door to the deck would not latch shut. No daily housekeeping services provided, though they are available for a fee.

Good to know: If your unit is in a building a ways from the central building, you'll be driving the kids to the pool. There are no elevators in the buildings so be prepared to do some schlepping of your gear. You'll be required to bag your trash and put it in the outdoor bin, same with recyclables. You'll also be required to strip beds and round up used towels, etc. upon departure. At check-in, your credit card will be charged a $100 security deposit, which gets refunded ostensibly when they inspect the unit after your departure.

Room Tip: The lower the building number, the farther away from the main building (where the pool is). When we...

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience is such detail with our TripAdvisor readers. Your comments will definitely help future travelers get the most out of their own Berkshires vacation. We apologize for the maintenance issues you experienced and your comments have been forwarded to the resort’s management team for review. In the future please do not hesitate to report any problems you find with your room so that we may have a chance to correct the issue while you’re still at the resort. Daily ski conditions for the area including Jiminy Peak are listed in the lobby. On that particular day you may have seen dashes for Jiminy Peak, which means that ski area is closed for the day. Thank you again for sharing and we hope that we may share our hospitality with you on your next annual family ski weekend.

We had a love hate relationship with this resort... but there was more positive than negative.
We had bought an extra vacation through RCI to come to this resort for our annual ski trip. The location is great for skiers as it is right across the street from Jiminy Peak. Aside from the mountain and the restaurants located there, everything else was at least a 20 to 30 minute ride away. Luckily we were not looking to do much during out week.

What we loved about this resort: The rooms where spotless, beautiful, quiet. The bed was very comfortable, I slept very soundly. There was lots of room and plenty of room for our friends who came up for one weekend during our trip. There was an indoor pool which was decently sized and in a beautiful room with big windows giving you a perfect view of the mountain across the street. There is also an outdoor hot tub that over looks the mountain. The front desk allows you to take out DVDs for free (one per room at a time) and there are DVD players in the units.

What we didn't like: The resort seemed to do a lot of nickle and diming... what I mean by this is they charge you if you want to use the safe in the unit. They charge you if you wanted to have bed sheets changed even once. They charge you if you want to connect to their WiFi. We also didn't like the fitness center. It was small and the equipment was very cheap. At least one of the treadmills didn't work properly, the track kept getting stuck making it actually kind of dangerous. We liked having the hot tub but it seemed that every day it was WAY over crowded. We would always have to wait a while to even get a spot in there, and even thought it was supposed to 18 and older only, there were always children going in and out of the hot tub like it was a mini pool for them. NOT my idea of relaxing.

Over all, we had a fantastic and peaceful week. Despite what I didn't like we would go back in the future.

Room Tip: The Internet is not free, you have to pay to use it.

“Very nice”

We stay here once or twice a year through RCI. It is a very nice resort, clean, friendly staff. The guest directory in the room is a good resource. We had a one bedroom unit for 2 adults and 1 teenager which is a nice size. The resort is less than 2 miles away from Jiminy Peak ski resort, and a few restaurants. Shopping is about 15 miles away. However, there is no shuttle that I am aware of from the resort.

My only negative comment would be the lack of amenities in the room which have been cut back on e.g., shampoo, etcetera. However when I called the front desk, they provided what we requested.

They have movie rentals available that are free and that is a nice amenity. Another positive is the shower, they were hot and had a really strong flow which is nice. The larger units have a jacuzzi tub. Having a full size kitchen is extremely helpful. Beds were comfortable and there was appropriate bedding for the pull out.

Only 2 of the 3 of us ski, so it was nice to have a nice place to relax. Would recommend for skiing or relaxing.

Room Tip: Some buildings are closer to the Front desk and pool which is helpful - we were in Building 10 and i...

“Love it here!”

We own at this resort and stay here at least once a year, if not more. Hubby and I love going up there. Berkshires is beautiful and whenever we go, we really have a relaxing time.

The resort is across the street from the Jiminy Peak Ski resort. It's on top of a mountain which truly makes it a getaway place.

The rooms are well decorated. You get a kitchen/ kitchenette, depending on the room you get (A or B). A's normally have the jacuzzi tub in the bedroom and an oven/range. Both A and B's have private baths, dining area, living area (pull-out couch) and balcony. The front desk has DVDs you can bring to your room to watch. They have a business center at the main building as well, where the indoor heated pool is located. The resort also has a fitness gym, an arcade center, an outdoor jacuzzi and another pool (open only during the summer). They have a free laundry facility on each floor, detergent not provided.

They have in-house activities also, so don't forget to ask the front desk for a schedule.

“Great Family Vacation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We loved Vacation Village in the Berkshires. The resort itself is beautiful, the staff was very friendly and our room was incredible! We were fortunate enough to have a two bedroom unit which was perfect for our two children. It was as though they had their own little villa! The pool was clean and the jacuzzi overlooked the mountains outside! Because the unit had a full kitchen..I prepared most of our meals. There are, however, great restaurants in the area but not a supermarket so I would suggest bringing whatever you can from home! This is a great place to kick back and be with your family. Bring games and movies and have a relaxing vacation. We can't wait to go back in the summer!
