The Harborview Inn sits on one of the main streets running through Gloucester with a wonderful view if the Atlantic. John, the inn keeper, was very warm and friendly and greeted my husband and I as soon as we arrived. We stayed in the Magnolia Suite on the top floor of the inn with a direct view of the ocean and city walk way lined with benches. The room was spacious and clean with a small TV that played local channels, an outdated microwave and refrigerator which we did not use. The room was furnished with two large reading chairs, bar/bench with two stools and a futon couch. The closet space was large enough to accommodate all of our wedding attire. The bathroom was fine except we found the shower a bit difficult to use. It was a beautiful classic claw foot tub with a shower head built-in, but the shower curtain did not stretch far enough around the tub to keep some of the water from splashing onto the bathroom floor. A major plus was the free wireless internet!! My mother stayed in the Rockport room which faces towards the back of the inn. The room was very cozy with a big comfy reading chair, small desk, dresser, closet and small TV. The bathroom was modern with an updated shower and tub. Breakfast at the inn was continental – coffee, juice, milk, cereal, assorted breads and pastries and some fresh fruit. My husband and I decided to try a local restaurant called Sugar Magnolias for breakfast instead – it was fantastic. The portions were huge and the serves was pretty good. Try to go early, because business picks up after 8:30 am on the weekends. Two of our friends also at the inn -in the Essex and the Manchester rooms - and both were extremely pleased with their accommodations. Overall this was great location and with a wonderful host. The inn may need a few minor updates, but we will definitely come back for another stay.
