“Lovely B&B, friendly owner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

This is not a fancy hotel, so if that is what you are looking for you may not be happy. This is an old (about 100 yr old) house converted to a B&B. We had the room all the way on the third floor. It had a nice view of the water and the room was clean and spacious, with a refrigerator and little microwave. They provide simple toiletries like body wash and lotion. The owner is a very nice, friendly man. Breakfast was simple but solid: pastries, bagels, cereal, hard boiled eggs, fruit, and cofee/juice/milk. We stayed in September and the air conditioning was working fine, so we did not experience the problem reported in another review. They have 4 parking spaces next to the house as well as street parking in front of the hotel. The bathtub in this particular room is an old fashioned claw footed tub with a shower. The only thing I would add to the rooms is a security door chain to use when you are in the room at night. We would definitely stay here again.

“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

if you are looking for 5 star luxury, then this is not the place for you. However, if you want a comfortable B&B with a friendly welcome then i would recommend that you look no further.
We had a comfortable room overlooking the sea. There are a number of good restaurants within easy walking distance and a good continental breakfast is served downstairs in the dining room.
A more sensitive soul might be kept awake by the traffic noise from the road outside or the fog horn which blared all night.

“Loved it! Great hospitality”

You won't find a better place to stay in Gloucester than the Harborview Inn. The view was beautiful and John the host is incredibly friendly and helpful. You really feel comfortable and relaxed here. The location is fantastic as it is diagonally-across from the Fishermans' Memorial Statue and just a short walk down to the bars, shops, and restaurants (don't miss Giuseppes and the Cape Ann Brewery!) We stayed in the Manchester Room over Memorial Day weekend, and my parents had the Golub Suite. Both rooms are very nice.

The Manchester Room has a quirky bathroom with a low ceiling over the toilet that may affect the men, but it's not too bad. The bed is comfortable and the view is gorgeous from the Manchester Room. If you are a light sleeper, you may want a room in the back of the house instead, although the traffic noise and fog horn didn't bother me at all. The Golub Suite is huge and has a private back entrance and sitting room attached, and also after 9PM, you get the breakfast/main living room to yourself as well.

Breakfast was fresh coffee, hot tea, orange juice, pastries, cereal, bagels, cheese, english muffins, and breads. Free wi-fi and parking is included as well.

Overall, the location is perfect, the host is terrific, and we would definitely stay here again.

“More comfortable than home....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2011

I have to make my own coffee ordinarily! What a lovely place! The ocean is right outside the front door, it's walking distance to great restaurants and other historic sites. The Innkeeper is fabulous! He knows everything about the area and helps you get aclimated to Gloucester and feel at home in any way you might need. Gorgeous breakfast waiting for you in the beautifully apointed Victorian living room/dining room while a fire burns in the ornate fireplace taking the chill off the March morning. My room was comfortably warm and had a view of the ocean to wake up to. What more could a traveler want?

“Summer yes! Fall, NO!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2010 via mobile

We've been here twice before in the summer and loved it. In the summer there are air conditioners and you keep the windows closed so it's ok. They took the ac out when we were here in October and the room was too warm for closed windows. The noise from traffic is continuous. It never let's up. Having to keep the window open made this a terrible place to relax. Sleeping was ok because by the time it was bed time it was cool enough to close the windows. I really wish the ac was left in place another month. When the traffic let up you would then hear the people taking on the porch. This ended up being the local hangout and the talking went on all day. With open windows there was just no way to relax here. Going out and using this place just in the evenings would be good but not a daytime hangout. The breakfast is continental and has no healthy options. If you want hi fat scones muffins and such then you're all set. Or if you want bagels English
Muffins cereal you are good to go. Watching your weight or eating healthy then this b&b is just a b. And a noisy b at that. Summary: come in summer only, bring your breakfast or go out and never come in the shoulder seasons. Great view with earplugs.
