“Quietly Beautiful with a great restaaurant”

We came upon this gorgeous Victorian style Inn totally by accident and with daylight running out! They happened to have one last room available that night and we grabbed it. It was a huge room on the 2nd floor and had large windows around the front the room. Our view was right out to sea with a rugged seascape and beautiful foliage (summer). Absolutely serene! Mornings are for taking a brisk walk down the shoreline (even in the summer the mornings are cool) then retiring to their wonderful restaurant with views all around and taking in some really good breakfast dishes. Their pancakes are wonderful as are their omelets. The main building is decorated in dark woods and has a great fireplace and pool room amongst other attractions (such as the tiny..and I mean tiny elevator). Although we had to leave after just one day we were very pleased with the accommodations (as long as you stay in the main building; they have a low motel like building a few feet away that looked a little dicey). The people at the desk were warm and outgoing. It's probably one of the nicer hotels/inns in the area. The Inn is very close to the town and the Artist District and offers a welcome retreat after a long day of exploring. Room prices are up there in the $200.00 to $300.00 per night but call them first to see if they have any specials going on. We got our room for under $200.00 for the one night. Check them out: www.oceanviewinnandresort.com/

Room Tip: Stay away from the motel building and go for the main bulding instead

“another wedding experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

Our son was married here in September of 2011. The overall wedding experience was fantastic and could not have been handled better. Our wedding planner Chris was a true professional, seeing to everyday with professionalism and caring. the venue, the food, the service for the wedding was above board...... however......

Our wedding booked almost 85% if not more of the rooms at the venue, a good number were booked for two or more nights. The only complaints we had were in the condition of the rooms. Most needed seriously cleaning and updating, most had a musty smell associated with water front property. Quite a few including the rooms from the parents contained ripped curtains, broken furniture, etc.

This place could be such a gold mine if the owners took a serious look at the conditions of the rooms, did some serious cleaning and maintenance and updating . Otherwise they should change their room pricing to any regular road side motel and not the pricey sea side room charge for rooms that are seriously second rate.

The resturant was another issue as many from the wedding went for breakfast the following day. Clearly there was not enough staff on to handle feeding a full resort full of people. Getting coffee was difficult and timely. Please consider creating a coffee bar in the lobby with carafes of coffee and tea for guests if having coffee in each room is not doable. this was a big bone of contention for people looking for a quick cup of coffee the next day before heading home......

5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

It was a beautiful wedding at the Ocean View Inn on Saturday, September 24, 2011, the service was stupendous, the food fabulous and they all to include (Peter and Chris) could not do enough to help the Bride and Groom have a wonderful day....everyone was so happy and it exceed our expectations! Elizabeth Gemelli, Wedding Planner.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms and the ones with the ocean view are wonderful!

“Nasty,Moldy, Creepy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We went to Glocester to visit the ocean side and catch up with old friends as well as to have some much over due time together. Firstly, the room was dark and nasty, the carpets were buckled, the chain lock was busted off and the AC blew hot moldy smelling air. Welcome to your first five minutes at the Oceanview. Upon asking to change rooms, we were rudley informed that we were lucky to have a room at all as there were two wedding groups in the hotel.
On Friday night we had our local friends meet us at the hotel to have dinner in their restaraunt. We could not have drinks first as there was no bartender. When we were finally seated, we got no water, no bread and butter. We could hear shouting and profanity from the kitchen, and thought this was most uninviting. The food, I got the filet, my wife got the scrod, the filet was overcooked, actually hard and the scrod looked as though it had been dropped on the floor. The waitress told us that the scrod was "kind of old" and offered to bring something else. So we ordered the salmon. We never got that dish and the scrod was still on the bill. We spoke with the manager, who offered us free drinks. Our friends took us to the Causeway Restaraunt as what we actually got from our meal at the inn was ineadible. Our local friends told us that this place is known for high prices and a creepy psycho owner.
My wife actually slept above the covers in her clothing as we felt the room wasn't secure and was dirty enough that we didn't want to make to much contact with our surroundings. The noise level was awful, we would have called the desk to complain but our room phone did not work. I went to the desk to complain and walked into an arguement between the owner and some bridal party member about a bill. Again yelling, swearing. There were three people at the desk and not one of them could find the time to deal with my concerns. Customer service here is non-existant. The owner said, We will "deal with you when we feel like it". I had seen enough. We left the room and changed hotels, twice as clean at half the price. Our credit card was charged a 200 dollar fee for "incidentals" and we never even finished the nights stay, never used the towels even. Upon calling the hotel to discover how this charge could be reversed we were told that if we v.e not recieved our deposit back that we must have smoked in the room or taken the beddings/towels. We are disputing the charge. We never even spent a whole night there but were charged a total of nearly 400dollars for a MOTEL ROOM.
If you like being ripped off and treated like garbage, by all means stay at this hotel

Let me start off by saying….Upon booking a hotel room, all non-wedding guests are informed before we take their credit card if there is going to be a wedding during the duration of their stay, therefore, all non-wedding guests have the opportunity to decide whether or not they want to stay with us with the knowledge that it may be noisy during the reception.
We strive to keep our rooms updated, properly sanitized, and secure. All of our rooms are inspected before we rent them; all doors have a dead bolt on them, and all sliding doors have a drop security bar.
Next, when the restaurant is open we always have a bartender here. Unless they are getting stock or ice, they are always waiting to serve customers at the bar.
When seated for dinner, the first thing you receive as you are sitting down is a fresh glass of ice water. Once your order is put in, the kitchen puts the rolls in the oven before they even start the appetizers. And please tell me, what restaurant or server would not only serve bad fish (very dangerous) but would tell the customer it is no good.
In regards to the profanity and shouting in the kitchen and guest areas, we are very professional and in all that we do. There is no possibility that any of our guests overheard any type of shouting or cursing from anywhere on this property. We would never disrespect any of our wedding parties or tell a guest “we will deal with you when we feel like it”.
Last but not least, we do have a strict non-smoking policy. Each guest is aware of this policy and is asked to initial next to the non-smoking policy on their registration card at check-in. Even though it cost us a lot of money for the sanitization services and products to clean the room after a guest breaks this rule, to this day, we have never actually enforced the rule of charging a guest for the costly clean-up.

Sincerely,
The Ocean View Inn and Resort

“Ocean view says it all”

We stayed here as we were attending a wedding at the Inn in ealy September. We only stayed one night and only spent time in the room to dress and sleep. The Inn and motel units are old and very tired. The motel should be torn down. The room was very plain and reasonable clean. It didn't smell of mildew or mold as we expected. It had a great view of the the Atlantic Ocean which was across the street. The bathroom was tiny and cramped. Cinder block construction.

I attempted to get ice for drinks, and as there is no ice machine on the premises, I had to go to the kitchen. The same for coffee in the morning. No coffee pot in the lobby or in the room. I did get complimentary coffee from the kitchen.

The wedding took place on a warm September evening and everyone had a great time. The dinners prepared by the Inn were surprisingly good, expecially having to serve 150 guests. Our stay was fine as the wedding activity was our focus.

But that said, the only reason to stay here is if your are desperate for a room or attending a wedding reception at the Inn.

Room Tip: The rooms seem much the same in the motel unit. All have a view of the ocean.
