Two words: bed bugs. Unsatisfactory response from both the hotel's clerk and Holiday Inn customer service. The first responded indifferently and denied even the possibility, all without an investigation. And the second responded with a typical form letter. Sad because otherwise the hotel, though somewhat tired, was fine. I hope they do fix the problem, so others won't suffer the discomfort from the bites.

“helpful staff very understanding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

Cheryl Barrett. Over the last 2 years has helped my family arrange accomadations,pre- wedding celebrations and support to my family and other family's in the military. Being local we have gotten to know Cheryl and her staff. My husband and I will frequently stop for a meal in the cozy restaurant. Either sitting in the bar area and having Donna serving us great food(Chef Gary) and lots of cheerful conversation or in the dining area with Valerie givimg us excellent service with a smile,we have always enjoyed our time at the Holidya Inn . Cheryl has helped us get to the right places in frequently stressful times while our son has been in the military. Recommending Holidya Inn's in out of state locations that meet our needs. I cant thank her enough. We will continue to patronize this special place with special people. Many thanks to you all . The Spang Family.

“Good location, average rooms, terrible food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

I stayed here using miles because I wanted to visit Cape Cod. The location was good because I was able to get to the ferries to Martha's Vinyard (15 min away) and Nantucket (over 1 hour including the time it takes to park and take the shuttle etc.) I heard these are the touristy ferries and that there are other ferries where you just park next to the ferry and go but I heard this after my trip. Be warned that the ferries are very expensive. About $70 round trip per person for the high speed ferry and half that for the low speed ferry.

What you need to know about the Holiday Inn:

-LOCATION- its close to the islands if that's where you want to go. The immediate area that the hotel is in doesnt have much.

-ROOMS - The rooms are run of the mill average - what I expect when I hear Holiday Inn... just a room. One problem I notice in all holiday inns is that the pillows are awful. They put signs that say "soft" and "hard" on them but they both feel hard to me... similar to that hard pillow many people have on their couch. The pillow that you lean against for firm support. Most hotels offer a feather down pillow in addition to the hard pillow.

-SERVICE - the front desk was pleasant and helpful, no complaints

- FOOD - Bad. Just bad. I dont come here looking for great gourmet food, but...Buffet breakfast was included... I already expected something very basic. When I saw the table I noticed Eggo type frozen waffles sitting there and "scrambled eggs" where you know for a fact that they came from a carton and were microwaved... think McDonalds. In fact I think they just pour a whole container and nuke it in one big rectangle so it looks like a big yellow piece of foam. After I realized the buffet was bad, I found out that you can order a set menu - eggs bacon and toast. I ordered 2 (my gf and myself). One order came out and was set in front of me and my gf had nothing placed in front of her...and the waiter left. I thought this was a joke --- the food looked as if the waiter took a plate, loaded food at the buffet and brought it over. Semi-warm pre-cooked buffet food. I asked the waiter if I could order a sunny side up egg hoping that they didnt have those pre-cooked as well and would have to actually cook fresh eggs. The fresh egg came with a side of pre-cooked bacon and potatoes but it was better than what I saw before. Take a look at the pictures I posted if you are interested.

Thank you for your candid remarks. Where there are shortcomings, there is an area of
opportunity.
Our pillows are 20 oz and 22 oz. We do have feather pillows upon request.
The most pressing issue that you had with us was our breakfast buffet. Although most our
customers are happy with it, we heard what you had to say. Our Management has decided
to offer our customers freshly cooked eggs, any style, with our buffet. We have addressed the service issue with our waitstaff and they want to give each customer friendly and effecient service. Again, we appreciate your critique as it will make us better. We hope you come by
again to see that.

“Run in the opposite direction...”

I would have never picked this hotel, but we were guests at a conference and we had to stay here because all the other accommodations were already booked . I think the rooms were around $299, which is so overpriced for this place. As someone else mentioned, no elevator so we had to drag everything up the stairs. Not a big deal, but again not something I expect for $299 a night.

The room was poorly decorated. The furniture were old and worn out as the stuff you see abandoned by the side of the road. The ceiling scared me most! There were huge cracks running all the way from one end to the other. I kept thinking it was going to fall any minute. Overall the entire place was just worn out...I never walked barefoot in the room—the carpet looked dirty and in very unsanitary condition. In the hallway the carpet was ever worse—very dirty, with huge stains everywhere. The bathroom door did not close and the bathroom did not have a fan. Overall everything looked like it had taken a beat!

The first night we checked in we stopped at the hotel restaurant for a quick bite. At the bar a loud crowd of very questionable people were throwing F words left and right. I am mentioning this because our six year old daughter was with us and other children were in the restaurant as well.

The staff was OK and helpful, and the hotel is just a short walk from downtown, but other than that I would tell you to just stay away and I would tell management it is time to give this place a major makeover.

PS
If you visit the website don't be fooled by the picture of the lovely gazebo—once you put it in contest, it is not pretty at all.

Room Tip: There are no good room here!

Reading your comments, I understand why you chose such a title for your review. However, I stand by our great team of workers who strive to deliver our brand promises. When deficiencies occur, we make a plan to correct them. Our high ceilings have pannels which creates seams. We have ongoing carpet maintenance and I am sorry that you found your room and area to be unsatisfactory. In the Spring of 2012, we will have an elevator as it is in the works right now. All beds and flat screen televsions are brand new this year and our suites have beautiful new furniture. All other rooms will be next.
If you are back in the area, please call me as we would love an opportunity to make it right with you.
