We were looking for a place to "crash" after a long day on Martha's Vineyard. I selected the Carleton Circle Motel because of several favorable reviews.
First, we discovered that the motel was located on a rural road several miles from town and there is no restaurant onsite. Their "complimentary breakfast" was evidently presented on the one table in the lobby and wasn't available until 8 AM. Same for the complimentary coffee. I'm told by one of our party that the coffee packets in the rooms "made horrible coffee". Needless to say, we drove to town for breakfast...well before 8 AM.
This motel is a former auto court. Our room (#3) was one of three rooms whose front doors face one another. The common entry way had been enclosed to form a small lobby with a table, chair, and couch. Very comfy! I assume the other rooms were configured similarly.
Our room was small but had obviously been refurbished recently. It had new carpeting, wall paneling and paint as well as a large TV, microwave and mini-fridge. Due to a door between ours and the adjoining room, our bed only had one nightstand. I pulled up a chair next to my side of the bed to create my own.
That bathroom likewise had a new toilet, shower, sink with lots of counterspace, and new flooring. Unfortunately, the motel supplied no facial tissue and only one bar of soap to be shared between the sink and shower. Worse, the shower was absolutely FILTHY! It had dirt in the grouting of the ceramic tiles from the floor to about 4 feet high. The corners were especially gross. None of this had been scrubbed in months.
In summary, the hotel's owners have obviously put money into refurbishing the Carleton Circle Motel. On the surface, it is an older but nice place to stay. However, they've chosen to throw this all away by not cleaning the shower, skimping on soap and facial tissue, and ignoring the fact that people usually are not willing to wait until 8 AM for breakfast.
