We paid the equivalent of 70 English pounds for bed and breakfast here. Yes- the rooms are faded and tired and old fashioned- the bathrooms unsophisticated, but the location and the breakfast experience more than compensated for the sleeping arrangements. If we had been obliged to pay more than 80 English pounds, I would have had a problem with the room which did smell strongly of damp, but let me expand on breakfast.
Paula, the breakfast manager was excellent- warm, friendly, welcoming and efficient. Breakfast itself was great- fresh fruit, cereals, eggs, sausages, bacon, waffles, pancakes, cheese, ham, various breads, bagels, pastries, muffins, etc. We were well set up for most of the day and it was truly great having breakfast.
At the price paid, it really was great value for money. However, it must be said that the surly, miserable, young receptionist who attended to us on arrival needs intensive training in matters of hospitality. My 70 year husband and I had to lug our bags up a steep flight of wooden rickety steps as no assistance was forthcoming. No information was given to us on arrival and the young employee's belligerent glare would have intimidated a statue. After twelve hours of travelling we were exhausted and a stroppy youngster was the last thing we needed, but the experience here got better and better. A good swimming pool with hot tub, lovely grounds, super breakfasts and wonderful location at a fair price ensured our return. It would be nice though if rooms were updated.
