I had gone to Boston looking to try a hostel since hotel prices were beyond my budget (either that or they were too far from Public Transportation). When I got off the bus, I went to the information desk and inquired if there were any hostel space available. The guy there called this place and found there was room there but it would be a distance. So, after taking two subways and a bus (and I passed it by at first but did find my way back), I arrived on the street where the hostel is located.
Upon arriving at the hostel, I walked in and was greeted by the girl working at the front desk. The price was within my budget (and they do take a $5 deposit for the room/front door key which they give back to you upon checkout). It was pretty smooth and within a few minutes I got the key to my room.
If you don't like sleeping with strangers then this might not be the place for you. I slept in a room with 5 other guys (one of which I befriended and we saw some of the sites in Boston) with three bunk beds in the room. There was a bathroom next to us that you could access from the room.
Also note they do not have any kind of continental breakfast, however, there are a couple of restaurants/cafes on the main street (Broadway) as well as a pharmacy and a 24 hour convenience store nearby. In addition, the lower level of the hostel has a refrigerator where you could store perishables as well as a microwave oven.
If you do not have your own laptop, they do have three computers available for use as well as 2 big screen TVs.
All in all this was a nice experience. I was able to meet some fellow travelers (most there were from foreign countries). Yes it is a bit of a distance from downtown Boston but its only a short bus and subway ride away (about $3). When I get back to Boston I will definitely consider staying at this establishment again.
